I posted this over on the SKS forum but it is dead over there!!!

My Friend has a Norinco SKS and asked if I could find out some info about it. The pictures he sent are low quality and I can barley make out the info on the gun. Looks like the serial number is 00146 and the receiver say "Trident arms Co. Vernon CA. Any ideas of when it was made and what it might be worth? It is in very good condition.
He also would like a tactical stock with a pistol grip maybe. Are there any that this Norinco will just drop in without any fitting? Are Norincos all the same when it comes to replacement stocks(tactical)? Thanks!

I'll take a stab at this. It's hard to say without a pic, but assuming it is in good shape, probably $300 to $350. I couldn't tell you the year it was made. There might be other markings on the receiver that might help determine that, such as the factory it was made in. There are plenty of cheesy tactical accessories out there for them, and the Norinco's should just drop right in any of the tacticool stocks. Some may not be made to accomodate the bayonet.

Don't even mess with any of the cheesy tati-cool stocks or duckbill mags. If you do, then 922r comes into play. $0.02

Don't all the parts you change just need to be US made?

I wouldn't change a thing. They are good just the way they are.

The owner does not like the factory wood stock. I told him to leave it but he wants a tactical stock.....

Throw a tapco stock on there and that should make him happy. Just make sure he hangs onto the original stock.

I'm certainly not a purist, but tacticooling an SKS is a waste of money IMHO. A WASR is much better suited for the job.

Tell him to sell it to someone who won't fubar it and buy an AK. With the ammount he would have to spend in compliance parts to make it look "tatical" he would be in it as much as he would an AK anyway.

Yep. I have a Norinco SKS and its great as it is. Actually very accurate (not MOA, but minute of bad guy's chest), but slow to reload.
