 AK of the Month?
akrox  [Member]

Something that I've been curious about for a while now is can we get an AK of the Month thread where people submit pics and we can all vote in a poll? Like on a car forum? Maybe a half dozen different AK's a month to go head to head. Stock vs modified, purist vs modernized, collector vs shooter. Each of the submissions would have a parts/build sheet. I think it would be fun and I know there are some members with some really nice stuff.

There's a section on 762x54R.net where people can post up their best 100 yard targets with details on rifle, ammo used, optic setup, weather conditions, etc, etc. using a standard target. It's on a monthly basis. I'd be interested on something like that as well here.

So I guess only like 3-4 of us would like to see something like an AK of the Month contest? I was thinking it would be better than the daily "what AK should I buy?" threads.

On a mustang forum I was on, they would split it up into themes: classics, Fox body, 99-04, etc. and do a different one each month.

Then someone had to nominate your ride to keep it from turning into a cluster.

You'll just be trading that for a bunch of guys wanting their every day WASR to be hailed as AK of the Month.

It's sometimes hard to place a rifle in either category. IMO there should be a third class for rifles that aren't

wholly tactical or wholly traditional, which would fit traditional/tactical or Chrome finished AKs. Or would

we put the semi tactical into the tactical and maybe chrome AKs with traditional furniture fall into the classical category?

IMO there is nothing more boring than a black AK with black furniture, no matter how nice the finish.

Sorry to the people who post that type of rifle ahead of time.

One more thing, now I'll be spending money on things I don't need just to impress people I don't know.

Yep,this way five or six of you can have a" look at me,look at me" fest, who cares,it's not a frickin contest.
If you have a nice collection then post up a thread and show the world,I don't understand this groups
constant need to show off stuff.

We used to do this on another forum... any one can post a pics, 1 picture.. list what you have on it IF you want no big deal if not... I think to should include any AK pattern rifle/pistol (from bfpu to 223 to rpk so we can see some interesting ones, but its not my idea so what ever) then we vote on them winner gets a prize of some sort donated by a member... I might be ble to dig something small up for one, could be a mag, or a muzzle break, or some small thing we could live without... someone with an item in the pay it forward could send one at random to them... I like the idea if we iron it out, maybe make it a sticky

How about you don't click on it if you don't like the title...

"showing stuff off" is one of the fun things to do on an AK specific forum. Not many people at the gun range will appreciate the amount of work that goes into something like Dskeet's Type 2 or a nice RPK or a really practical AK someone has setup.

It's not so much about the "look at me" but to inspire other AK owners in there own builds. A collective Raising of the Bar so to speak. Like on a car forum. Not all the guys drive GT 500's, but a lot of us that don't have that kind of money come up with some pretty innovative ways to make horse power.

Look at the covers of the Guns & Ammo Complete Book of the AK47, I have all 4 in front of me and they used a WASR-10, a CAI Bulgarian parts built gun on a NoDak NDS-2, WASR-10 Underfolder, and a Krebs built Saiga. Even the Krebs they used this year started off as a regular Saiga, was converted, and aftermarket parts were added. Sure, I don't have $4000 for the Mark 8 sitting on top of it, but it has made me want to put a MTAC 1-4 on my SLR-106FR whenever RS comes out with their AKS mount.

Like I said,if you have something you're proud of or "whatever" start a thread and show it off,I don't think we need a "competition"on who has what or the"rare only one in the world" BS.

I, for one, enjoy looking at the rare, uncommon, and accurate clones from many of the members here. For some, a WASR is all the AK they want and or need and have no interest in the collectors grade Preban Chinese AK's, or a period correct and historically accurate Russian AKS-74N.

To compare it again to the car world, it's like going to the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance and appreciating the multimillion dollar automobiles that I will never own. But there will be ones you like the looks of more than the rest.

Yep!! And with these even the poorest folk can afford one or even a few if they will put forth the effort and the time to save... I love ak's cus the really cool ones just dont pop up over night, so I think they deserve more than just one initial thread. People should be writing books about some of the clones here and akforum. I would love a thread like that! I wish we could get detailed high res photos for the winner.

Here is my AKS-74N Project that will be done in a few weeks. I would love to enter that one.
