I do not know much about AKs and this will be my first one. Would this be a good choice?

Ok, you know I'm not the one to always say: Hey use the fuckin search button, but for fucks sake, use the search button dude.

This comes up every other day on here... There is actually a dedicated thread titled, something like " first time AK buyer's thread". Please find/read, for all of our's sake.

Really.
Not trying to be a jerk, but if you did any reading here first, you should have found this (WITH the answers to most of this).

Good luck wit your in devours.

PS: you can do better than Century, usually.

I would recommend this.

AK Buyer's Guide.

I do share the sentiment of the above. I just wish the Buyer's Guide was stickied instead in a more visible place in stead of sequestered away.

Maybe I missed it but when I read the buyers guide prior to posting I did not see anything in it saying whether the Saiga conversion that I posted a link for was good or bad. I only simply saw a section that broadly talked about Saigas in general. I wanted to know about a specific gun, and how was I supposed to know it was a Century Arms conversion from the listing on Centerfire Systems. I did use the search button but I did not find answers to my questons. I'm not saying they were not there but I did not see them the first or second time that I looked at the buyers guide. Now if I was interested in buying a Wasr I would have had a better idea of what I was getting into.

After looking at the page, that rifle seems soild enough. Saigas have always seemed to be pretty well made rifles (someone correct me if I'm wrong).

Looks good to me. Buy that or the AMD.

Seriously? What's with the language? The guy asked for an opinion, not to be cursed at and disrespected. There are more polite ways to direct someone to the appropriate thread.

@OP, It looks like a solidly built rifle. If you like it and the price works for you then go ahead.

Remember that on those saiga's that aren't fully converted in which I mean the forearm and gas block. You will have to buy saiga only forearms unless this has changed and I am unaware. So This is somthing to consider. They are nice rifles and I would not hesitate to buy one though.

for about $60 more you can have one completely converted properly if you do it yourself. Learning curve, yea, but totally worth the extra $ in the end. I'm sure you can find someone in the hometown forum to help you do it too if you needed the help.

Shut the fuck up.

(That smiley means that was a joke, don't get butthurt)

Technical thread: But seriously, it's a Saiga, so it's going to be a solid rifle. But unless you're totally incapable of working with tools you can do the same thing with better materials in your garage with a stock Saiga. It is a plus though that it has receiver dimples, but may not be a guarantee that your's will have them.

No flash hider and no way to put one on unless you replace the front sight block or jury rig something... may or may not be threaded under that shroud. Goodies mounted on the front will be impossible as there are no mount points on that non AK hand guard. To get a standard one on there, you'd need to do some work. Google Saiga forum as they have tons of info on self conversions and accessories. Is it a bad rifle, no i have one and it has yet to fail me. You will get the bug however and want to modify it. That's when you will wish you had purchased something a little more standard. However, for a first dive in to the world of AK's, i'd say go for it. The fit and finish will be superior to the WASR.
