Can someone tell me why an AK doesnt suffer from carrier tilt?? and why an AR gas piston does??

Thanx

It rides on rails.

Also, on an AK, the gas piston is screwed into the bolt carrier, so there's no way it can tilt, but on a piston AR, while the rod does push the carrier, it's not attached to it. GARY N4KVE

It probably does tilt to an extent, but the carrier and the rail is hardened steel, so its not going to damage anything.

Where an AR carrier is hardened steel and the upper is just aluminum. You don't want hardened steel digging into aluminum.

And remember Eugene's AR15 does not have a gas piston in the traditional place a piston would go (It is gas/direct impingment). It does have a gas piston. The AR "piston" is the part of the bolt that holds the gas rings, and rides in the carrier. You only get tilt when you go modifying the way the AR15 operates, since you are bored and have too much time on your hands that might be better off spent drinkin' and chasin' the wimmenz . The tilt in an AK (if there is such a thing) is in the design specs of the weapon and doesn't matter –– so it doesn't exist.

Oh my god, is it really that hard to understand. On an AK the rearward force from the piston is in line with the forward force from the spring. On a piston AR the rearward force from the piston is sbove the forward force of the spring causing tilt. All of the previous suggestions are pure horse shit.

Wow, simmer down son. This is the AK side of the forum. What's an AR?
