I have a chance at a Arsenal SLR 106FR with 20 circle 10 mags. What can you tell me about these guns?

I have a half dozen 106's. They are great rifles- if you like 5.56, otherwise I prefer my cheap to shoot 74's or the more powerful x39 rifles.

How much are they asking for it, with the mags?

I have the version without the rail and enjoy it. Haven't done anything other than play at the range though.

Great rifles. I have a 106F and a 106FR on the way. The F has almost a 6k round count and one fail to feed. Also, he rear sight slider "button" disintegrated but that was a $5 repair. My favorite rifles.

One of the best AK's currently available.

It has a side folding stock on it. What can I replace that with?

That stock (which is one of the best AK stocks IMO) is one of the principle draws to that rifle. You can drop in a triangle folder (see pics above) to replace the polymer one. Other than that your options are very limited as the receiver is modified for that stock in particular. There are buffer tube folders that are drop in compatible but hard to find and almost certainly use the 5.5mm pin instead of the 4.5mm pin on the slr series. If you do not like that stock...I would suggest you not buy that rifle.

I really want to own one of these. 5.56 AKs are sweet.

I love my 106FR. I have too many mags for it and I think I need a CR to share the mags.

It's like all the people that have folders want to put an M4 stock on it and all the people that don't have folders want them.

I also have a 106FR and 106ur, IMHO they are the best post-ban factory standard AK platform on the market (krebs/tromix takes the cake).

I might sell some AKs but I will never sell my SLR-106 guns.

Thanks. New 106FR's are about 1K, and each of those circle 10 mags is worth about $25 each, so that's not a crazy price.

That's actually a pretty good price, considering that you get 20 mags (20 x $25/mag = $500). But does one need that many mags? IMO, no. Keep ten, sell the other ten and buy a red dot, scope, or something else for it.

Im just worried about jamming. I read that these could be finicky? Is that true?

I have an early CR and FR and neither have ever jammed.

Wasn't there a jamming issue with these?

There was a feed ramp issue on some very early models that was fixed. The early circle 10 5.56 mags also had some issues that were resolved with the 2nd generation. I forgot the serial number prefix (see the Bulgarian forum) but anything newer should be good to go.

I had minor issues with 20 rd clear mags. Once I went to black/30/circle 10's I've put almost 6k rounds through it with one fail to feed. The round, brown bear 55g fmj, stopped 1/2 way into the chamber. Other than that it has run like a clock. I've shot federal xm193, IMI m193, brown and silver bear, remington and ae223.

Have you ever been in that situation with guns where you don't need it but it's such a good deal that you almost have to buy it? I'm there with this 106.... I had a Norinco 84S and I said to myself if it's 5.56 then I'm going Ar15...

Everybody is different. Having said that, the last time I shot my ar15 was before I bought my slr106F. Sure, the ar is more accurate, but I just don't want to bother with it annymore. I always pick up the slr 106 instead. I'm not trying to compete with the benchrest shooters at the range either so the slr is perfect for me. I abuse it and it always delivers.

YMMV
