Russian Laminate Furniture Picture Thread
ZEROTHOMAS's new AK-74 furniture acquisition has inspired me to start a new thread. This thread is dedicated to Russian laminate furniture and all its glory! I LOVE this stuff! Please post your favorite Russian laminate furniture pics. (AKM, AK-47, AK-74, etc.) The more the merrier!
I'll start...

Very nice. Is that an Ironwood stock?

Thanks. It is an ironwood stock. Actually its much more red than it appears in the pics nut my phone's camera always washes it out. I used rit dye then tung oil finish. It's very rewarding to do the finishing yourself.

Not bad. I almost didn't notice. I think Ironwood stocks are closest to Soviet. Also pretty close for a Rit dye job.
Some Type III Goodness:
Arsenal Inc. SA M-7 "Classic"
Very nice!

Thanks John! I purchased that set around 6 years ago from Z_Recto.
I LOVE Russian furniture. I just picked up both a full blonde red colored AKM set and AK-74 set! Pictures to soon follow!

Beautiful Type 3. It would look even better with a Russian slab side magazine.

And with real Russian laminate wood. Nothing comes close to the real deal.

That is real Russian wood on that type III. It was not uncommon for a type III to have a hardwood butt stock and laminate hand guards and grip.

Yeah, it's legit. The stock even has a rearsenal mark on it that is specific to Russian parts.
That is freaking awesome looking.
SLR105 with Rakurs A1 red dot

Oh, well it doesn't look nearly as nice. Great gun, just not that amazing looking golden laminate wood look I like.
Just had a sudden urge for an optic on my 74...

I'm not even going to comment.

Lighting plays a huge effect on how the Russian stuff looks.
Either way, kind of a dick comment there.

just did

Here's a set I did for a member.
Damn Sinatra....that is spot on. Looks fantastic! You still using the pine tar and shellac method? I still havent tried it yet but have a Milled Type 3 stock set that needs attention. I want to do something tried and true.
Looks GREAT
Who's wood is this ? ? ?
.
Thanks guys. This is set of Ironwood Designs furniture that I finished in the "iodine" orange scheme. T.J., I still like to use the pine tar method from time to time.

I'm kind of a snob when it comes to people's attempts at replicating the Russian stock color. If it hadn't been for the unfinished parts, I would have thought those were original Soviet. Well done!

How did you finish them ?
Thanks so much guys. To get this look, you'll want to use an amber shellac and red/brown dye.
My SLR-106FR.

That is pure sex, except that PG looks so out of place to me. Looks naked without a cleaning rod too. Seeing this makes me want another 74 with a folding stock.
Thanks! As for the PG, I'll prbably replace it with one of the "fat" wood pistol grips from IWD.

Nothing looks better than real Russian Laminate and a polished Bolt carrier. Simply amazing. Now only if i had the balls and the knowledge to do it to my own
What kind of hand guard did you use as a starting piece for that? It looks great!

Pretty sure its this

Looks awesome. I didn't know you could put a 45 degree gas block on a barrel that had a 90 degree. are the gas port holes different? I assume it works fine? Thanks!

Apparently you can, and yes it works. i didn't build this gun, except for swapping out the furniture and keeping it 922r compliant. I bought this gun from Red Jacket Firearms instead of one of getting one of Arsenal's SGL21s b/c of the gas block and the polished bolt carrier group. I really wanted this Russian "AKM" to really be as authentic as one can get new now days here in the states. Was about $300 more for those features, but I don't mind. Plus, to me at least, it's cool that it has such a well known name tied to the gun as well.
For the AK-74 though, I'm just ordering the normal Russian bodied Saiga converted SGL31-61 that Arsenal offers since to look proper, the AK-74 needs to have the 90 degree gas block. I can polish the bolt carrier group and install the bolt hold open lever myself when I get it coated flat black bearcoat.
Good eye,
Mike
you can use a 45, but like you said, they do have different positions for the gas port. So they either closed the old one up, or just used the new one to over it up (hopefully not the 2nd).
That's a new one. Polymer handguards with a laminate stock. Interesting.
