Thanks. It is an ironwood stock. Actually its much more red than it appears in the pics nut my phone's camera always washes it out. I used rit dye then tung oil finish. It's very rewarding to do the finishing yourself.

Not bad. I almost didn't notice. I think Ironwood stocks are closest to Soviet. Also pretty close for a Rit dye job.

Beautiful Type 3. It would look even better with a Russian slab side magazine.

That is real Russian wood on that type III. It was not uncommon for a type III to have a hardwood butt stock and laminate hand guards and grip.

Yeah, it's legit. The stock even has a rearsenal mark on it that is specific to Russian parts.

Lighting plays a huge effect on how the Russian stuff looks.

Either way, kind of a dick comment there.

Thanks guys. This is set of Ironwood Designs furniture that I finished in the "iodine" orange scheme. T.J., I still like to use the pine tar method from time to time.

I'm kind of a snob when it comes to people's attempts at replicating the Russian stock color. If it hadn't been for the unfinished parts, I would have thought those were original Soviet. Well done!

That is pure sex, except that PG looks so out of place to me. Looks naked without a cleaning rod too. Seeing this makes me want another 74 with a folding stock.

Thanks! As for the PG, I'll prbably replace it with one of the "fat" wood pistol grips from IWD.

I love Russian Stock sets and magazines.

Picked up this wood for a soon to be ordered Semi Auto Russian AK-74. RARE matching upper handguards with the notch in them to match the lower, and NO vent holes. Very glad I found these! Waiting to find a perfect matching AK-74 stock right now.

Along with all of these magazines. Izzys to match the Izmash made receiver of the gun.

Also, picked up these 4 Tula mags to match my waiting on transfer and built 1986 Tula Full Auto Krink. 4 more 45 rounders are in the mail as well for it.

Also, here are some pictures of my newly completed AK47 with all Russian wood. Magazines are Izmash to match the Izmash made receiver as well.

some of my Rusky Lam somewhere on the table there. Same ones posted on the first page

Not real Russian Lam (cant find real Krink ones that arent a million dollars) but Ironwood Krink handguards by Z-Recto

Right now im contemplating on either an RPK or an FNP45. Im leaning more towards the FNP but i love AK's so much and i would definitely throw some Russian RPK wood on that bitch

Looks awesome. I didn't know you could put a 45 degree gas block on a barrel that had a 90 degree. are the gas port holes different? I assume it works fine? Thanks!

Apparently you can, and yes it works. i didn't build this gun, except for swapping out the furniture and keeping it 922r compliant. I bought this gun from Red Jacket Firearms instead of one of getting one of Arsenal's SGL21s b/c of the gas block and the polished bolt carrier group. I really wanted this Russian "AKM" to really be as authentic as one can get new now days here in the states. Was about $300 more for those features, but I don't mind. Plus, to me at least, it's cool that it has such a well known name tied to the gun as well.

For the AK-74 though, I'm just ordering the normal Russian bodied Saiga converted SGL31-61 that Arsenal offers since to look proper, the AK-74 needs to have the 90 degree gas block. I can polish the bolt carrier group and install the bolt hold open lever myself when I get it coated flat black bearcoat.

Good eye,
Mike

you can use a 45, but like you said, they do have different positions for the gas port. So they either closed the old one up, or just used the new one to over it up (hopefully not the 2nd).

That's a new one. Polymer handguards with a laminate stock. Interesting.
