I'm just starting to look into AK optics and mounts (as my eyes are getting worse) and I am wondering what the difference are?
Can a mount for an SVD\FPK be properly used on an AK side rail?
How about the POSP scope\mount combos, are they intercahngable between FPK and AK?
no they are not interchangable, however it is easy to find the same optics with rails for AK or SVD/PSL(FPK) platforms
when shopping for these scopes make sure to check out which optic the mount is for!
Kalinka optics has a ton of them and so does eastwave... sorry I don't have the links!
The stop pin on AK mounts is at the back of the mount and at the front for SVD mounts. An SVD mount would have to be slid on an AK rail from the front and it will slide forward from recoil. Some rails are interchangeable ( I believe ) and will accept both styles but you will have problems with eye relief and such. Just stick with the proper mounts mated to the proper rail which as said are usually advertised as such.

Correct. Late model Veprs are a good example. Their rails will accept both AK and SVD mounts.
