Should I replace my Ultimak with the TWS Dogleg?
I have an Ultimak, ARMS 31 mount and Aimpoint T1 on my 7.62x39 Arsenal AK. I love this setup, but have noticed that the T1 gets pretty hot during shooting. I haven't been able to find any reports of people having problems with heat transfer, but it is a concern for me with such an expensive sight. I've been reading a lot of info here and other boards about the TWS Dogleg, everyone seems to like it so far. It would resolve the heat issue. Trying to decide if I should buy one to replace the Ultimak. It would be nice to have a peep sight as well, I prefer that style of sight to the standard AK type.
Anyone have the Dogleg/Aimpoint T1 setup? Can you get a co witness with an ARMS 31 or the stock T1 mount? Also how does the rear peep work, I'm guessing you look over the rear sight to use the dot, and lower your cheekweld to the peep if the dot fails?
Curious about this myself ....

TWS/H1 with stock mount is what I have. The co-witness would be in the bottom 10% .
I will be posting a review on the MI micro dot mount tomorrow. I have used the ultimak and MI quad rail soon and neither were what I wanted. If this MDM works well I think I will finally be happy.
If you burn up an Aimpoint, replace it with a Primary Arms micro. Mine won't fry.......I've tried.
I don't understand why people get so worried about this. If there are any reports of someone burning up a T1 or PA micro on an Ultimak, please link them in this thread. Pics or it didn't happen.
Not at all worried about my TRS-25 "frying" on my Ultimak. It's been there for 2.5 years and thousands of rounds and it's doing just fine.
I've only read of 2 first-hand accounts of optics going down on Ultimaks due to heat in all my time on the internet. The issue is blown way out of proportion by a lot of people.

Bottom 10%? Are you sure, that seems way too low. I've heard other people say 1/3-1/4. Do you have a picture of how it looks from the shooter's perspective?
Pic uploading in 10.
eta picture.
Wow, looks like you can barely see the tip of the front sight thru the scope. That's a drag, I knew the dogleg is a little higher than the Ultimak but I didn't know it was that high.
vbfg, do you have a picture of the front sight through the Aimpoint? Thanks a lot btw, I'm having a hell of a time finding good pictures of how this setup works!
I will assume you want one like this.If you save first photo to your computor you can zoom in on it and see all the way through to the red dot on front post.
Hmm that actually looks like a pretty nice setup... Decisions, decisions... Anyone know if I can still get a decent co witness with the ARMS 31 mount or if it will be too high?
