Galil top cover on an AK
Forgive me for my ignorance but I wanted to know if a Galil top cover would fit on a stamped AK?
Or can it be modified to fit ?
TIA
short answer is Yes.
But the front sight will be little low.
Thank you for your reply.
A couple more questions on this.
Will the top cover have to be modified ?
Is there a common fix for the sight plane issue, could you just build a taller front blade ?
How much difference are we talking about ?
TIA
The Galil top cover will probably need some material removed from the front where it fits into the rear sight block. The rear may or may not need fitting to the recoil spring/top cover catch. the sights are a good deal taller than the standard AK sight. The front sight can't be adjusted to work. I guess you could build up a sight post to the point it would work, but on the ones I have done I have cut the front sight and welded it with filler material to make it taller. Not an easy thing to do. If you wan't a rear sight in the Galil position I would suggest you buy a Tech Sight or a Texas Dog Leg rail so you can use the standard front sight.
