i am talking about the metal lined plastic 30 and 40 rounders with the smooth sides. are they durable/reliable? what about the bulgarian 40s with the bullet markings down the side?

does anybody have any experience with them that they could share?

The bullet marked magazines are not good at all. The Bulgarian waffles with the circle 10 are excellent. I don't recall seeing any Bulgarian slabside magazines in 7.62x39 if that's what your asking about. All of the Bulgarian surplus 5.45x39 magazines are GTG.

I believe the OP is referring to this mag:

The "bullet" and the “Slabside” are Bulgarian commercial mags and do not have metal latch tab or feed lip. They're probably OK for the range but for the price I would rather stick with Steel mags.

I have one of those pictured above in a 40 rounder. It feeds well with no issues but it seems to have a cheesy rear locking tab. Time will tell but for now it just allows for more front to back mag wobble than my other mags.

I took it apart and the mag body does attract a magnet near the feed lips, not exactly sure where the metal ends though.

If you like the look of that mag, you can look for some polish Radom 7.62 mags. They looks very similar to those, except they are steel reinforced and have steel locking lugs
