How many mags do you have ? Update
As of Feb 10, I have now 43 steel and 1 Tapco 30rd mags. Still only one drum and 5 Glock mags. Maybe now I have too many? At least until I get another rifle or handgun! Please post pictures of your’s.

Took these pics a few years back. Been adding to the collection ever since.
You don't have enough yet and neither do I.

It's a start. Keep chugging along. You'll get there.
SS
87.

Good start. I had a bunch of mags that went down when the ship sank.

I lost count. If you know exactly how many mags you have then you probably don't have enough...
If you have more magazines than ammo to load in them......
you need to buy more ammo
When you can't walk arund the house wihtout tripping over any, that's when you have enough mags.
I have about 60 or 70 of the 7.62x39 mags. Too many or too few? I don't know.
The answer to "How many mags is too many" (if there is one) is personal ... there is no correct answer, nor incorrect answer.
You cant have to many Mags, or to much Ammo.

I don't have any. Did you hear that Sarah Brady, I have none..............

The 1 Tapco is too much imo.

You can never have enough.
No such thing as too many!!
Just too damn bad about all these unfortunate boating accidents gun owners seem to have.
Guess we're great shots, but lousy watercraft pilots.
where is the picture of the guy doing a belly flop onto a floor covered with mags
I know I'll get flamed for this.....
Remember these are AK mags...they are damn near indestructible. You are not going to wear one out by using it. You may damage one here or there, but that's about it. That said, 15-20 mags per AK is more than enough to last you and your kids lifetimes. Simply put, you will shoot your rifle out before you wear those mags out.
Realistically, why have a roomful of mags? For replacement parts? You can only carry or drag so many. Don't get me wrong. I do believe in having plenty to go around but is over the top. Only a hardcore ar15comer would declare that not too much.
I know I have exactly 3 for AR and 7 for pistol, but I do not keep count on the ak mags. Basically can't have too many. Someday before most of us die, the assholes in charge will probably make them illegal. Buy them when they are cheap & plentiful. I think I got most of mine for around $6 each from the SPG mag lottery.
Personally, I don't see the practicality in having hundreds, or even dozens of mags. For each of my mag-feds, I have enough mags that could reasonably be carried on me depending on the types of carriers available for the rifle, plus a couple extras just to have around. And I also have some rarer AK/AR mags, but those are mostly just for collection purposes, not serious use.
I have AK mags that are already decades old, and function flawlessly. I can see them lasting longer than I do.
Sure, they are good reasons for hoarding them like as investments, or "SHTF bartering". But if you don't think you're prepared for battle unless you have a mountain of mags...you're watching too many movies. For me, I'd rather have a modest, realistic amount of mags, and spend the rest on ammo and training.

My thoughts as well. I like to have a good amount, and most of them I found on sale for too good a price to pass up. Bartering is a good reason to keep a pile of extra's

I have plenty of mags (at least 10 mags per AK, and I have 20 of them). I don't give a rat's ass about practicality. Having gone through all these dam gun and mag bans, I am a bit paranoid. There is no guarantee that what is legal today, won't be tomorrow. So if I see a good deal, I pick up a few.

Truth. I got enough and probally could do with a lot less AR mags. Sometimes I think I should have a garage sale on some of my shit, but then I tell myself I might need it when the Zombies come.
Can you shoot, move, and communicate carrying 50 + magazines?
I have 12. Six in my vest and six in my ruck. (360 rounds; basic combat load) Spare ammo beyond that is stored on stripper clips.
People forget that when things go bad magazines are disposable and having more is used to resetup your load out.

+1. It's always great when you're cleaning the basement and open up a box to find a bunch of mags that you forgot you had.
If you know how many you have, you do not have enough, for sure.
any number of mags will do you no good without the ammo to fill them with... just sayin.
double tap. sorry.
It's good to have more than you need, because you can always use them as barter or trade for something you need.
It's a good investment.
Well here how I carried my mags.
This one is my main setup. It a M23 Pioneer chest rig. It can hold 8 mags plus one in the rifle, giving me 270rds.

My second setup is these two. Both of these can hold 3 mags. I called this my “light” load.

This a Hungarian pouch that hold 5 mags. Possibly my favorite, because it’s so simple.

have a set number per AK you have
I have two 5.45 AK's with five 30rounders and 45rounder per rifle
for my 7.62's, well i don't know, but not enough

IMO there is no such thing as too many mags.
I feel 5 per handgun and 10 per rifle is the minimum.
I see mags as both a item of utility (plinking, defense, and survival) and an investment. IMHO, no single person needs 200 AK-47 magazines for personal use even in a mad max scenario. However, 200 AK-47 mags is reasonable in that you could keep 50 or so of your best and sell/trade the rest.

Yup
TheMirage is right on with this one. When you properly practice reloading on the move you are
dropping your mags, not neatly stuffing them back into your pouches. So if your gear holds say 4 pistol mags and 6 rifle, then you need at least twice that to restock. Odds are if you ever actually had to reload on the move you would not be able to go back and get those mags you dropped later. Plus with mag bans always on the horizon you must always think of it as a lifetime supply. Be assured next time the ban won't have a 10 year sunset. They won't make that mistake again
My gear holds that number of mags so I feel quite comfortable with 9 mags for my primary pistol and 31 for my primary rifle. That doesn't mean I won't pass up good deals on more though

. Since I am young and in college and have a new baby and it seems like a mag ban is the most likely law they could jam down our throats in the near future, I have stocked up on a basic kit of high caps for all the weapons I would want in the future. Even if the AR I get one day doesn't have a threaded barrel or collapsible stock, I definitely want 30 round mags. I am old enough to have been around for the first ban and dread those prices.
There are never too many though cause barter with excess is always a good idea. If in doubt look at the prices on bakelite AK mags of any kind

One day that could be used steel mag prices! Or god-forbid promag prices... all it takes is an import restriction.
Since most rifle cases only hold 4 in the pockets and one on the rifle I only have 5 fully loaded 30 rounds each on all the guns I have with only 4 for my glock since I have a 2 mag holder and one in the gun on one on the holster... Man If I cant hit something with 150 rounds extra mags are not going to help.....
You'll know when you get there.

Yup. It's not about how many you can carry at one time, or how many you'll use in a lifetime.
It's about making the next magazine ban largely irrelevant. If each gun nut owned, say, a hundred magazines the supply could go on for several lifetimes.
Not that you should stop at only 100....

I got mags in the safes, bought more
put mags in the garage (plastic storage containers) cuz I ran out of room in the safes, bought more
now I have mags in the attic in plastic storage containers. currently buying more.....
AR mags pack away nice and light. Its when you start stacking FAL and steel G3, m14, ak mags......
Why?
Cuz AR mags are cheap and easy to get. I remember when they weren't.
Good Ak mags are getting more expensive
Have you seen the increase in FAL mags! I was buying em like new for 8 bucks! The whole reason I bought a FAL instead of a M1A at the time.
G3 mags are getting more expensive
M14 mags......I started too late.
and last but not least......
It's what gun bunnies do!

2x what you're going to carry for any particular weapon at a time. That's enough to replace the odd damaged one, and to have a few extra you can grab if you want.
And of course you've tested all of them and pulled any duds right?.
+1 only a good start
