WPA 7.62x39 corrosive ? Got rust (pic added)

Shot some WPA Military Classic in 7.62x39. Inside the camo WPA box was a paper bundle of 20rds. with what looks like a Barunal head stamp. Shot my Draco and the next morning I had rust in the gas tube and on piston head and some specks on the carrier. Also what looked like the start of rust in chamber, barrel and gas port but it cleaned off fairly easy. I have never had rust in any of my AK's even in damp weather. I can't help but think this is corrosive. I got this from AIM back in oct or Nov. Anyone else notice this with WPA ? -Thanks

Even if it were corrosive, it would not rust that quickly unless you're hosing it down with salt water. You sure the rust didn't start earlier?

Klimovsk Ammo is having corrosion problems.

As stated early in this thread: http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_2_217/213604_KSAP_7_62.html when Klimovsk was supposedly good, that Klimovsk was making WPA ammo as well.

Considering that Klimovsk is having corrosion issues, and Klimovsk is making WPA ammo.

Klimovsk isn't make WPA, Barnual is, there was confusion earlier on that but it was another caliber and not the Ksap factory

I will pop a primer on a clean steel plate tomorrow and set in in the garage (40* F). If it's corrosive how long should it take to rust ?

In theory it shouldn't take more than a day or so if you can get a good spot of the plate. Most reports on the KSAP were showing rust fairly quickly.

Popped two primers on a clean steel plate with half the plate covered as a control. I set it on the screened in back porch, it's raining and 37*, will check every 12 hrs. for the next 4 days and report back.

Oh boy, I sure hope this WPA isn't corrosive ammo. Just decided to buy a bunch of it instead of the Yugo simply because the Yugo is corrosive ammo. Thanks kyron4 for testing this and I'll be looking forward to your reports.

Well, I think I cried wolf (no pun intended). I sat the plate ouside on a screened in porch about 2' from a screen for 48 hrs and 1 hr in a steamy bathroom as I showered, at the 24 hr mark. Outside it rained on and off with a RH of 82%-91% and temps of 31*-48* F. I don't see any major rusting like I would expect from corrosive ammo. The first shot was fired about 1/2" from the plate and left a carbon circle with the speckled outer ring. The second shot was fired at about 3" from the plate just below the first. The other side was masked off during firing as a control. Here's the results, I say it's non corrosive, what say you ? I will give two more days to see if anything happens. I will say this ammo is very dirty/sooty ammo.
