I was finally able to get back out to the range to do some ammo testing in my WASR 10/63. Some info about this gun:
Trunion is stamped 1989. Matching serial numbers on trunion, bolt and bolt carrier. Barrel is chrome lined. Fixed stock.
If you reference my last post you will read how frustrated I was when I tried to sight in my 10/63 with a 500 rd bulk pack of Wolf black box that I had purchased at Cabelas years ago.
This time I gathered up several different boxes of ammo and headed out to the range with my dad. I fired 5 round groups at black 81/2 x11 sheets of paper on a white background at 100 yds. Here are some pics of my results:
Winchester FMJ (white box) from Wal Mart
Klimovsk from AIM surplus
Herters from Cabelas (pretty good group but looks like bullets are tumbling
Unknown Russian made hollowpoint ammo from Outdoor Country in Bishop, TX
Pri Partisan from Cabelas (worst group)
I also tested some Wolf Military Classic, but could not get the cell phone camera to gi ve a wide enough shot to show the group and the tape measure. It was about a 12" "group"Winchester was the best, Pri Partisan was the worst. Right now I think I'm leaning towards Klimovsk from AIM. However, I would like to pick up some Ulyanovsk and try it. The Herters is out because the closest Cabelas is in Buda. If I order over the internet I get hit with state sales tax and shipping.
Next step is to try some reloads. We're going to pull some bullets on the wolf ammo, dump the powder and reload with some AA1680. We're also going to pull so me bullets from the Wolf ammo and reload the winchester cases with pulled bullets and AA1680
Also I will be testing some Hornady Z-max 7.62x39.
Right now I have the rifle sighted in with Tula because it's the most common 7.62x39 ammo in the area. With the Tula I can get head shots at 100 yards. Good enough for zombies, but if you have zombies at 100yds you're better off just walking away.
In summary, this gun just does not like Wolf and does will enough with most of the other types of 7.62x39 that is commonly encountered.
All the ammo types you mention above are not available in my area. I looked into order a box of Golden Tiger from SG Ammo but it is $12 to ship in addition to the price of the ammo! Whenever I settle on a particular brand of ammo I will be doing a bulk order.

Well, it seems to be shooting decent groups with the Winchester....
1. You didn't buy a "dogs shit" rifle, there is nothing to get over.
2. Thank you for posting your results.
Well here is a group of Wolf out of a Chinese SKS at a laser ranged 104yds.
I will admit it was the best group out of 4, but none of the groups were terrible.
I also know it is a 3rd group, but half of your pics only show 4 rds.
Your rifle obviously does not favor Wolf, mine on the other hand likes it just fine.

Then shoot the fucking Winchester and pay for it. Some ppl need more help to hit center than others. Both my Colt AR15s shoot 2-3" groups with Russian Wolf WPA. I pay alot less for my rounds than you do
I also have thousands and thousands of rounds of 5.56 when TEOTWAWKI. Makes it a no brainer. LOL.
