Hoppes Boresnake
At WalMart this a.m. and found the Hoppes boresnake for 9.97. I have a AK 74 so I bought 2 of the .223/5.56. On WalMarts website they are 20.00 so if you are close to a WalMart go pick you one up.
BTW nice forums!

Thanks for that. I try to do business with more "local" busisnesses, but sometimes you just can't avoid Wallyworld.
Thanks for the heads up. My local WM had the AK47 one for $15 w/ tax. A little cheaper than other places. Probably not the cure-all for cleaning my rifle, but nice to add to my cleaning kit.
All I do is run mine down the barrel & then in the safe it goes.. I don't clean my AK. Just lube before I shoot.
Oh yeah I found mine at walmart too. $15 as well.

Thanks for the tip, that's about a nice enough price to endure the typically painful Wal-mart experience.
HOw did you get that snake to work. I bought a .223/5.56 and the brass weight thing is too big for my barrel. does yours just slide down the barrel or do you have to push is?
Thanks
I see more rifles get fucked up at the club range with those things. In order for it to work pulling it thru the barrel you about have to have it in a vise,I usually see one guy holding the weapon tightly and the other guy trying to pull it out the muzzle, one usually goes on his ass or drops the rifle and gets it all banged up or the scope damaged

Yeah I'm thinking they can't read packaging materials or they would have the correct caliber size. I just ran my bore snake through maybe 10x last night in my study. I have a desk where I can do light cleaning there. Pretty sure i don't have a vise or anyone helping me.

Did you get the right size? Mine works great!
My .22 snake cleans my bore better than 20 patch runs...

I usually wrap it around my hand and pull it right through. There is resistance but nothing
you would need 2 grown men to pull..
"operator error"
when mine get dirty I rinse it out and drip dry

That is the strangest thing I have ever heard. I have snakes in .22, .223, 9mm, .30 cal, 12ga, and 50 cal and use them every time I shoot. The only one that was a bit tricky was the .50 cal that I used when I was in the military. Having a buddy help made that task easier, but it was certainly manageable solo. I was always worried about it breaking in the barrel because of how much force was needed to pull it through, but after hundreds of snakings, it never broke (the .50 cal bore snake is not long enough for an M2 barrel so you have to tie a piece of 550 cord to the end of it btw). Aside from that, I cannot fathom anyone having problems with a bore snake.
