What size punch do I need inorder to remove the fireing pin and the extractor pin from the bolt? Also, is it the same size as the bolt for a Saiga 12, in other words, can I use the same punch to remove those pins from a Saiga 12?
If you have a cleaning kit, the punch works like it was made for the job.
The small end of the punch in the kit is approximately 1/16" in diameter.
Actually, my AK did not come with a butt stock cleaning kit.

Step 1: Buy a punch with a small end 1/16" or smaller for immediate use.
Step 2: Buy a cleaning kit. It's very useful because it provides the tools for so many things. Check the thread in the BIY forum for most of the tasks it can be used to accomplish.
I'm very sorry to bother you all with this question, but I'm new to AK's. In all of the reading materials I've come across concerning fieldstripping/cleaning the AK nothing is mentioned about firing pin removal. I know we do that with AR's, but is it as necessary with AK's? Thank you.
It's possible to fire thousands of cartridges without ever removing the FP and extractor.
However, if you use corrosively primed ammunition or ammunition with primer sealant you should remove those parts for a through cleaning.
