So I finally cleaned my AK with non chlorinated brake cleaner per directions here and on youtube. I sprayed the receiver holding it upside down and cleaner was red dripping down. Any idea as to what kind of grease or lube that was? Thanks!

Cosmoline. Its used to preserve firearms and other metal objects when they are warehoused or shipped long distance.

I had the same thing come out of my used SAR1 the first time I cleaned it.
I thought it was the laquer they use to seal the rounds??

Cleaned right up and wasnt any issue.
