WASR 10/63 Butt Stock Screw Worked Itself Loose
I noticed this today on my Henderson WASR 10/63 AK-47.
No big deal, grabbed a phillips head screw driver to screw it back in.
This is the screw on top of the butt stock that joins the receiver together with the butt stock.
Problem is the wood seems to be stripped by the screw. I did not tighten that much at all and didn't feel hardly any
pressure when tightening, the screw now just goes round and round.
Anyone know how I can fix this?
Method 1. Buy a HARDWOOD dowel larger than the screw hole. Drill a hole in the stock. The hole should be a slight interference fit with the dowel. Glue the dowel in the hole. Drill the appropriate sized hole in the dowel. Install the screw.
Method 2. Cut several toothpicks to the correct length. Cover them with wood glue. Drop them in the hole and install the screw.
Method 3. Coat the screw with parafin. Fill the hole with epoxy. Install the screw. When the epoxy sets up but before it sets completely, remove the screw. Remove the parafin. Reinstall the screw when the epoxy hardens.
I have never used methods 2 and 3. I know method 1 works.
Did you buy the rifle new? I've never seen a Romy with a Phillips head stock screw.

Ya, well I got it from Henderson Defense. One of their Century "Certified" WASR 10/63's. Yep, definetly has a Phillips head
screw through the top of the butt stock.
I'll try Method #1 and let you know.
Maybe the Phillips screw was an attempt to fix a hole that got stripped when they demilled the rifle before rebuilding it.
Toothpicks or matchsticks + some Elmer's, Gorilla, or Titebond.
This also works for loose pickguard screws on guitars.

Sounds like "Method 2" above.
If you premix the gorilla glue with some water, to a honey consistency, it will expand and fill cracks etc, giving a better fill. Just dont use much, it expands quite a bit and is a pain to clean up.
