Carburetor cleaner
Can I use Carburetor cleaner to clean the ak/ar?
Not sure, but I like using non-chlorinated brake cleaner on my AR.
It's strong stuff and doesn't seem to harm the plastic furniture.
I also use low-odor mineral spirits as a cleaner and Mobil 1 synthetic motor oil as a lube.
It is ok to use if you keep it off the stocks and promptly re-lube all affected metal.

+1
Also, carb cleaner will strip the paint Arsenal uses.
BSW
Are there any name brand non gun cleaners IE carb or break cleaner that you guys use? I use dirty ammo and I am OCD when it comes to cleaning my guns.

Thanks
Use the $1 Super Tech carb cleaner from Walmart and as already stated, keep clear of paints, plastics and finished wood. Don't be fooled into thinking carb cleaner replaces all gun cleaning designed products out there, though carb cleaner has its place, keep your stash of slip2000, Hoppes #9, Tetra, Wipeout or what ever you choose in good supply.
I used EZOFF over cleaner today on an old IBM M1 carbine and it just melted that petrified cosmoline. I then scrubbed in hot water and dishshoap. Blew water out with compressed air and and then in the oven at 200 for a bit just for good measure. Finished with EEZOX and it looks incredible! I will use the oven cleaner over brake cleaner from now on...

That will eat the finish right off your wood ,I've used it to strip stocks before. I imagine it will also harm the finish if left on there for more then a few minutes. but sure as hell melts the cosmo.
Brake clean is the same stuff just cheaper. May be hard on plastic.
