Single stack question
I have the opportunity to buy a ban era AK for next to nothing, unfortunately it has a single stack trunnion. Has anyone opened up the receiver, and replaced the single stack trunnion with a regular one? Can that be done? If so, what would the difficulties likely be? I looked through the tacked threads and didn't see anything like this.
Thanks
Is it a WASR10? There lots of the converted ones around. A Yugo PAP is a different story.
I have a MISR10 that I did that to. Not too hard on mine
ETA- I didnt replace the trunion, just opened up the reciever for the double stack mags
I opened up the mag well on one with a dremel, power file, and calipers.
It turned out fine, I didn't need to touch the trunnion at all. It was wide enough to accept the hi-cap all ready.

Thanks for the replies, but this isn't a WASR, its marked Romak 99.1 and the trunnion is far too narrow for a standard double stack. It sounds like this thing is kind of an orphan design. Do you experienced AK builders think it would be possible or worthwhile to install a new trunnion? I should mention this thing looks like it has never been fired, Would that make headspacing easier, or would it make no difference?
Thanks
Careful, some of these were cut so they can't be fitted with a pistol grip.

If you don't open her up and want some 5 and 10 rd. mags, give me a shout.
I saw a video on YouTube on some one doing one...might want to go look or post pics of your mag well so we can tell you..
kells81,
i actually used your tutorial to open my single stack, (back before i was even signed up to the forums), i found it quite easy to do. took me about an hour going slow and checking fit regularly. im happy with the outcome, and i know that it was done alot better than alot of those century monkey hack-ups.
