hey guys doing my first build .got a new rommy barrel form apex like everthing they sell ex. anyhow do to my lack of my exp. in ak buildding the barrel has no gas hole or trunion /barr. cut .HELP.. WHO WOULD U GUY SUGGEST to do this work...that will do it rite & not brake the bank....thanks.
I to am planning on a new romy barrel from Apex for my first build. my plan is to set up my drill press with an end mill cutter to start the pin drilling process and then finish with the correct size drill bit. first i will populate the barrel and check headspace. I will use a gas port drill from AK builder to drill out the gas port after i have the gas block in place and aligned. the last to drill will be the front sight base after i am sure i have no cant. I hope this helps.
I have never built an ak before!
The thought of using an end mill was my first thought when I did my first barrelless build but it's not necessary. It's ideal and does the job but so does a good standard drill bit (make sure it doesn't have cutting edges on the body, just the end/tip). Same goes for the barrel pin hole as well as the 'grooves' in the barrel for the rest of the barrel assembly parts. While you can certainly drill a 3mm 90 degree hole for the gas port I have since gotten the long 3mm drill bit that can be used with the gas block in place and using the gas block as a guide drill the gas port hole. Like anything, measure twice and cut once and you should be happy. I hope this helps.

I use a drill bit slightly smaller than the hole I'm drilling then finish with a reamer
I messed up a barrel by not making the pin hole big enough. When I pressed the pin, it bulged the chamber.... DOH!! still looking for a new barrel. NOt sure what size hole you need, i'd find out first.
In your case the barrel will robably headspace fine. Proly won't need much work. its an AK!
7mm is the standard barrel pin hole. You ream it with a 7mm reamer you should be fine. Copesdistributing (and others) have new barrels. Good luck and have fun!

I haven't had him do this for me, but I want to say anything this guys does is top notch the best work! I have had him do several other things and I would have him do this if I needed it done professionally!
