I'm looking at a used Mak-90 I found in a pawn shop. Some moron cut the top half of the rear sight block off so his top cover mounted scope would work. I've looked all over and cannot find the specs for the diameter of the barrel on a stamped Mak-90 under the rear sight block.
Does anyone have these specs or know of a rear sight block that will fit a Mak-90?
This Mak already has a full set of Chinese wood and a spiker bayonet on it. Correct cut handguard as well, so it looks pretty good but the rear sight is completely gone.
From a quick look at it, it needs:
Correct top cover. It currently has an Akm robbed cover with a rail on top.
Rear sight base replaced or possibly welded back to spec.
From sight post, as it is missing.
New/correct bayonet screw, it has some generic hex screw that the bayonet pivots on.
The front sight post, bayonets screw and top cover are easy to find and replace. The rear sight block is what worries me.
They're asking $599 for the rifle. I think if I could get it for $500 or less I could restore it and be in a fair/reasonable price point.
Sounds like a pretty good deal if it has a factory bayonet. I didn't know that Mak90's had bayonets though.
You can get a lot of the original parts from
Polytech parts
They are in Atlanta I believe. You may be able to buy a complete barrel and just move your bayonet over to it instead of trying to press everything off to get to the rear sight base.
Yes, I was looking at Polytechparts.com and if I get this rifle, ill order the parts from there or off of the EE or gunbroker.
I considered getting a new barrel assembly, but it would cost more than I would want to put into the gun.
I really need to know if any non Chinese rear sight blocks will fit, does anyone know? I had some trouble finding barrel specs for the rsb for the Mak-90.
