Dammit to hell!!! I snapped a bit off drilling the thru rivit on my yugo underfolder front trunion. I was a second or two from stopping and withdrawing it when it went. So I went at the other side and drilled it down to the snapped bit and proceeded to try to tap it out as usual but the pin punch I use for that broke off as well on the other side. Fuuuuuuuuuuuu$%^&*(!!!! So I have tried pulling the remnant out with the vise holding it and tapping on trunion side to get it out nope just broke it off closer to trunion. so now I have dremeled it down flush to try drilling again but its too hard to get a bit started. Double fuuuuuuu#$%^&*. SO I guess I am left with trying to press it all out. Damn nice numbers matching kit too. I hope I can salvage this bitch of a trunion. Just had to walk away and vent. That is all....
Willard Out.

Rear trunnions isn't marked with a number....

If you have to get a new one it isn't the end of the world, but I would bet you can press it out.

A through rivet on a front trunnion? Am I missing something?

I've built a half dozen Yugo undefolders and no through rivets on the front trunnions.

Do you mean the barrel pin? Those press out.

Its the lower front rivit..its a long rivit...trunnion is solid there all the way across.
This is a bulged trunion style if that helps.
Still too pissed to address it right now...maybe in the morning.....

Aah, I see now. Haven't built any of that type....yet.

All is not lost. I'd work at it on a press with a very short, flat ended(not pointed) and hardened pin to try and get some movement out of it. Once it starts to move, it should all come out. That drill bit remnant should act to push the remaining rivet out.
Meanwhile, I'd soak it good in PB Blaster to lube the walls of the hole.

Stuff like that does require patience and is certainly frustrating but keep at it and you'll get it out.

None of the rivets go try... if you just grind to smooth with the receiver and then punch it out it the barrel is not there its cake... now the rear is a different story,,,,, Pic, Pic,s if you need help....

make a stubby punch and whack it out or make a jig with a stub on it and press it out. long punches are just going to bend or snap. heating it would help things along

be carefull if you do put a little heat on it, you don't want to change the temper especially if you heat it enough to affect the locking lugs. A short punch and a press or vice ould probably work well. for the future if you drill out other long rivets i'll tell you hat i have found to work very well. I use cheap harbor freight hss drill bits as they ill flex a hair before snapping also i have my belt on my drill press a touch on the loose side so usually the belt will slip before the bit breaks and finally i use cutting oil. i run at about 900 rpm and somewhat medium downward pressure. doing it all this way usually cuts through the rivet like butter, i drill almost all the way though from one side after starting with a counter sink. as for drilling out a broken drill bit.... good luck, if the press cant get it then find somone with a mill to cut it out

Get some good quality bits and they should eat right through that. Personally I go with some good cobalt bits and have been able to negotiate broken bits out rather successfully. If you have drilled through both ends another great approach would be to press them out at this point (there shouldn't be anything left for them to bind on). With those bulged Yugo front trunions the hard thing is keeping the trunion steady while drilling. Are you using a vise or some sort of spacer? I made a spacer to drill out rivets after my saga of broken bits. Since then, only when I use cheap bits do they occasionally break. Good luck!
