Just wondering what the point of having multiple caliber rods is for. I use my 20 cal Tipton for cleaing my 10/22 all the way to my 12ga. Is there any reason I shouldn't be using this thin of a rod to clean my .308, 40cal or 12ga? Seems to work fine for me...
Tico Tool s are the best most effective way to clean a shotgun once you use one you will never go back.
Ok say you have a 20cal or 22 cal rod then you buy a 17hmr presto you need a 17 cal rod now.
Guys who shoot 30 cal tactical rifles with tight chambers and bores often use a 30 cal rod for the additional strength.
Guys who like to throw a rod in their bag may use a Bore Snake type cleaning rod or a 3 piece rod or a military surplus rod.
Lets say you buy a short rod for a 16 or 18 in barrel then you buy a rifle with a 24 in barrel presto you need a longer rod.
Use what works for you if someone else wants to own a dozen different rods just remember in about 30 yrs you also will be there.
Oh hell New York No wonder - you probably dont have but one gun and dont you have to buy twenty rounds and take the brass back to the store to get another box,

no wonder you are going down this path. Go spend a couple years in Texas and educate yourself.

I'm upstate. Got 11 firearms (3 ARs) and several thousand rounds of various ammo for them. (Mind you I'm only 24 and have only started acquiring guns for two years, since I graduated college) Though I suppose 11 is still below the average Texas citizen...
Anyways, I guess my real question was: Is it
bad/wrong to use a 22cal rod in a 30 cal gun? You kinda answered my question with the comment on tight barrels/bores and additional strength. Makes sense, but hasn't been an issue for me. So I guess I'm alright doing what I'm doing. And I don't imagine myself ever getting a 17cal so that won't be an issue.
...and I'll look into the Tico Tool. Thanks.

Well I am 30 and got the bug a few month after our current Buffoon and Chief got into office. Since that time I purchased 14, but have sold a few so I am down to 11. (Although working on number 12 right now. SCAR-17S.

)
I've had no issues with a .22 rod, and I've used my one rod in all my rifles. I'd like to get something bigger eventually, or a little shorter rod for the AR's, but It's worked fine.
Sometimes if I get a jam the rod will flex a lot, but it can do that with .22 as well. A .30 rod would be less prone to do so.
Using a .22 rod on a .50bmg is like throwing a hotdog down a hallway.
