Chamber fouling results in stuck cases/Failure to extract

This problem has only begun since I have installed an SSAR-15 bump fire stock. My reloads are identical. I must assume that the higher rate of fire and resulting increased temperature (and it gets damned hot after only 60 rounds) are causing this.

I have tried to do an ever increasingly more thorough chamber cleaning, but it is exceedingly difficult to get all up in dere. I am using Break Free CLP, an AR specific brush with the wider/extra bristles for the bolt area, a bore snake, patches as well as today a puffy rod attachment that should sop up any hard to reach areas in the chamber's shoulder area.

I have, in the past, not done a very thorough job of removing the case lube from the loaded cases before firing, but, I have not fired these lately, to eliminate that as a cause of the FTEs. No improvement really.

Any advice? The cases begin to stick after less than 100 rounds since previous cleaning.

Reloads are 55 gr Montana Gold FMJs over 25 grains of H335 powder, and various makes of primers.

How dirty is your case after firing? Do you see a lot of fouling on the case (or just neck and shoulder).
If fouling on the body, I would try different powder. I use varget and it is pretty clean.

There is increasing fouling on the body as the round count increases.

H335 is a very common powder, so I am surprised if that is the cause.

Also, I have 3 8 pound jugs of H335 on hand for .223!!!!! I'm ALL IN!

Do you have an O ring insert on your extractor?

I have one of those colored boosters on it. D shaped if that is what you are referring to?

So you have one of these inserts in your rifle?

Any other information on your rifle? Who made your barrel? What buffer are you using? How many rounds do you have threw it? Does it have the center insert as well as the Dfender?

That is exactly what I have installed. I need to underscore how much junk is appearing on the cases. I have to use a steel rod down the muzzle to force the case out, it is that stuck.

I bought the upper lightly used, so I don't recall the manufacturer.

It is a carbine buffer that I am also unsure of additional details.

Round count is probably = 4000

I believe the center insert is installed as well, I would have to verify.

Thanks for your help.

Have the chamber polished, or remove the bumpfire stock.

install the heaviest buffer you can to slow the action down. your rifle may be over gassed.

It sounds like your chamber is slightly undersize or is rough. I would polish the chamber and see if it helps.

ETA: is the extractor ripping the part of the rim off of your stuck brass?

I will have a gunsmith polish the camber then.

The case is not really even marked up by the extractor.

I had a problem like this recently. My chamber brush was long past being worn out. I bought 4 more.

If your extractor has proper tension, it should leave some pretty well defined marks on the case rim as it slides over.

My chamber brush is new.

I will have the extractor tension looked at as well.

The SSAR will soon go on a 9mm Bushmaster Carbon-15, so I will see if this is a causal factor as well.

I would double check your extractor and make sure it is in good shape. It shouldn't just be skipping over the case rim. I would ensure that the extractor claw isn't damage and then put in a new extra power extractor spring. I would think about just replacing the extractor and everything. I like the sprinco XP spring.

You can polish the chamber yourself. Just get a 9mm case mop and put some polishing compound on the end of it, then put it on a rod and chuck it in a drill. Run it back and forth for a bit and it should smooth up your chamber.

Let oil sit on it for a while, and do the hard work for you. I know that a lot of guys just can't sleep if their gun isn't clean as soon as they get home, but try this... after shooting, spray the chamber with oil or cleaner. CLP, Rem-Oil, Mobil 1, whatever, just spray it(*). Take the rifle home and put it in the safe until the next day, THEN go clean the chamber.

If it's really bad, you may have to repeat - oil, wait, clean. But seriously, give the oil/cleaner some time to work. Once that chamber is nice and clean, post a picture of it.

brake cleaner :)

If you really want to see some folks get worked up chuck your chamber brush up in a cordless drill and scrub the chamber for a few seconds lol.

What ammo are you using? I was having extraction problems with WOLF after about 60 to 100 rounds. The casings would come out with carbon on the sides. I had to pound a few out with a cleaning rod but they came out. It didn't look like the extractor was getting a great grip on the case by looking at it so I replaced the extractor/spring/and o-ring and all has been fine. In fact I probably shot 500 rounds of WOLF over the weekend with no extraction problems.
