Ultrasonic Cleaning and BCG Coatings?
I've been looking into getting an ultrasonic cleaner for brass and rifle parts. My main question is pretty simple. Will ultrasonic cleaning damage/remove a finish applied to the bcg? (ionbond, NiB, etc)
I can't imagine it would (I use NiB bcgs) but I figure taking the 3 minutes to type this is a lot cheaper then having to get a new set of internals because i fucked em up.
I was looking for the same info and saw this thread.. thought you'd appreciate the info:

Forget cleaning the BCG by hand!
just deprime your brass first.

I'm new to reloading but why do you need to deprime first?
What may happen is some fluid gets stuck between the brass and used primer, causing the brass to be junked from corrosion.
When I used an acid wash I used to de-prime, but a dry tumbler I almost never de-prime. I do not like dealing with primer pockets full of corn media.
OK, thanks
I would not leave the parts in long. I left a BCG and a piston mount for my suppressor in there and forgot about it for a few hours. I was firing the rifle and 2 of the lugs ripped of that particular bolt, and that can just happened to fly down range after the mount broke. I just get chrome or melonite parts now and all is good.

Holy crap...good to know
I have a sonic cleaner in the arms room at my department,
The timer on it dosent go past 15 minutes on our model. I dont run it past 5 minutes and it removes everything. It is great for a complete armorer level dissasemble and then clean on our annual inspections. That way you are getting the degreaser then lubrication only where you want it. It has never removed anything but carbon on our Patrol carbines, Shotguns, or service pistols.
