So I went the range this morning and 3-4 times within 30 rounds when i would drop an empty mag the bolt would close when i would press the button to eject the mag. The range i was at only allows assault style rifles to load one round at a time so i was dropping the mag between every shot. The rifle was a brand new Noveske N4 using 20 rd pmags and i installed a geissele ssa trigger as well. Ammo was federal 62gr XM855. Ive never had this happen with my previous ARs. So my question is what would cause the bolt to close when ejecting an empty magazine? Is this something to worry about? I did notice that the pmags seemed a bit tight in the lower. Any ideas and answers would be appreciated.

No, I didnt have any with me. Next time i go to the range ill take the GI style mag that came with the gun.
You go to quite a gay range. Try shooting on BLM land its much more fun.

What kind of accuracy do you get under water?
Your ranges sound like an obstacle course.

It just makes things a little more interesting

I guess a better way to put it is there is "standing" water on the range.

Is the bolt catch trapping the BCG on the bolt lugs or the carrier? It may have a slight short stroke where the catch misses the bolt but can grab the carrier so long as pressure is on the catch. It could also indicate weak mag springs or dirty magazine body, something that is slowing the follower just enough for the catch to miss the bolt.

The pmag i was using was brand new so it shouldnt be a weak spring or dirty mag body. Unfortunately at the time i didnt think to watch the bolt while ejecting the mag so i didnt see anything. I guess ill next time i go shooting ill also take a metal mag with me and see if thats possibly the issue.

Bring several mags, many malfunctions are magazine related. I've had a few pmags that were messed up new right from the bag, follower looked like it was melted a little after leaving the mold, which made it hang in the mag body a little.
