Crack or forging blem?
What is this line running down the corner of the mag release button well? I can feel it with my finger. Crack or forging blem?

Forging blemish . If it was a crack there would be some separation. I don't one.

Anyway, thanks for the input. Forging blem is what I thought. I suppose not to worry about it then...

Is this on your new SASS?
Yes, on the SASS. Quite a few blems actually; there's this one, then a long 2.5" scratch in the upper under the anodizing, and finally the machining is rough around the forward assist housing.
Not too concerned about the others, but in certain angles, the photo above really looked like a crack to me.
ETA: apart from the above, the rifle shoots well and is accurate. Couldn't really ask too much more functionally speaking.
It's a fire arm. not a show car. Uppers and lowers that look good to the naked eye can look bad with digital photography.
I'd be more concerned about all the lint than the forge line.
I understand your pain. For the price of some of theses rifle such as your SASS you would think they would give them a good once over. Try calling Armalite maybe they can do something for you.

Actually, the line looks worse to the naked eye; the picture and the lighting didn't really capture it well.
As long as it's not a crack, I really don't care.
I can see it. It would be an area of concern for me as well, especially considering what the SASS's go for.
I'm sure Armalite will take care of it.
My AR10 doesn't have the nicest machining in some spots, but it's got it where it counts. Smooth trigger, reliable, and accurate.
I don't have my Armalite manual in front of me, but, it has some lines in it that say that you will see some cosmetic blemishes on your firearm.
I have an area on the delta ring of my AR10 that shows bare metal and it came that way from the factory. BFD.
The operation of the rifle is in no way compromised.
1) It cost money to perform aesthetic inspections.
2) It only takes a few seconds per piece for someone trained in the art.
3) The SASS should have had that included.
EDIT: Why? Because it is the SASS... or the T.
I've gone through over a 1/2 dozen 10s since 1999. Mine have been Mary Poppins quality: Practically Perfect in Every Way.
God Bless ARMALITE and their crew.
