I finally got to shoot some of my steel cased ammo. I wanted to do a
test to mainly see if MFS was as good as SB. I also threw in some
Tula/Herters for comparison. 17.5" AR10, with rifle gas system. I have
shot a ton of ammo threw it and I use it for my velocities in my other
postings in here.
The velocities/Stan devs 20 rd strings 65 degrees/3200msl
MFS: 2584/ 18.3
SB=silver bear SB: 2651/ 24.5 (this is a match to previous outings)
Tula 2581/ 19.9
Herters 2590/ 16.2
81 FN Nato brass cased 2616/ 18.9 (this is a little faster to previous outings)
What happened:
Surprisingly I got some FTEs with my MFS. I had shot a ton of steel SB
ammo/some tula the day prior with a can and did not clean the chamber. I
cleaned the chamber then ran the SB which was fine. Ran a couple of the
Tula, got 3-4 rounds between stuck casings. Same for the Herters. I
stopped shooting and inspected the chamber, it was bad. I had to take a
brush to the bore to clean all that crap out. I usually shoot SB with no
problems and this was the first time (and last) shooting the "wolf"
style 308. I also had 500 rounds of the MFS go threw a HK21 with no
problems.
What I learned: I will not shoot herters or Tula again. The SB has
enough power that when its gets dirty it still extracts fine. The MFS is
a little slower. The cases and loading of the MFS and SB are exact
except for the "MFS" stamp on the base of the case. I did not get to
weight the powder/bullet.
MFS will probably stay in the HK21 for the price, with SB being my AR10 plinking round.
I would recommend the MFS, but not the herters/tula

Good stuff.
I am not familiar with SB steel cased.
Is that the same ammo that is in the green boxes?
