Anyone here suppress a 16" AR10? Feedback? Issues?
I'm about to start the arduous process of sniffing out models, pricing, and potential availability of a lightweight (key) sound suppressor for my stock 16" AR10.
Anyone have any tips or tricks or reviews that could potentially influence a decision? Any issues with the gas block, for example? Assuming the H3 buffer and mid length gas is adequate. Safe to also assume I'll want a gasbuster charging handle....
Many thanks in advance,
H
I run slash buffer+car stocks and the old AAC SD can
Works fine with out upgrades, but you can add a heavier buffer, RTV the charging handle and possibly a Noveske gas block, makes it nicer but not a req.
I'm a fan of the AAC stuff. They are not as light as some Ti cans, but they are quieter while being more robust. After having a lot of cans, get a QD. It cost more for the FS/MBs but its so nice moving them around w/o having to re-site all the time
I also use my 30 cal cans on my M16s, so I need the more robust can. I value db reduction+ robustness, over weight or cost.
YMMV
Thanks,
Definitely a fan of QD suppressors. I have a Surefire for my AR15's. Didn't have the insight to get a 30 cal can for everything, so I'm not stuck having to get one for the 7.62 lead chuckers. That said, I loathe the front heaviness of fat suppressors, so I'd be in the other camp and would want to minimize the weight and compromise on the db reduction. My goal is not having my ears bleed from a 16" 308 carbine and retain it's lightweight configuration, to the extent possible. The heavier buffer makes sense. Beyond a H3 though, you're talking a real heavy buffer...what's the Slash buffer weigh? Think it'd work okay with a longer "stock" Armalite tube?
The Noveske gas block, what makes it better? Is it adjustable? Appreciate the input.
Im running a HVT QD from gemtech, with slash buffer also, no problems. If you have the extra coin get the Titanium one.
Its probably the best suppressor IMHO because of gemtechs quick mounts. The AAC cans ratchet in place, i dont like.
Funny you mentioned Gemtech, cause that's the exact model I was looking at. Debating between the Sandstorm and Quicksand version...I really want to keep the muzzle weight to a minimum, and I'm not sure the QD will be worth it. I wouldn't be actively swapping the suppressor for gun to gun. Maybe a bolt gun down the road, but not anytime soon. 13oz and 7.8" isn't too bad for a 16" AR10. Good point on the extra heavy buffer...I'm sure the gas blow back would be substantial.
The QD is worth it, these will be adding a lot of length/weight to the gun. You'll still want to pop it on and off a lot. Threading it on/off and screwing arround with a thread protector takes a long time.

You can use an HSS (6.5 oz.) or an XH (8.25 oz.)
I recommend the XH.
Wow, that's heavy indeed. I'll be sure to get one, thanks. Safe to assume you're the Slash associated with Slash buffers?
Yes, that would be me.
I had over pressure issues with mine even with an adjustable gasblock. I had to add a carrier weight and now all is well. I never had cycling issues but the primer pcokets were swelled pretty bad....
Larry how do you like that 16" suppressed AR10? I'm at a point where I might trade my AR10A4 carbine for a bolt action 308...my intent is to have a deer rifle. I'd rather own the AR10 for it's versatility and fun in between deer seasons. That said, extracting a live cartridge gouges the bullet...which will render my hunting experience a pain in the ass...considering I walk around with a gun a LOT more than I do shooting deer!
Only thing that'd keep me hanging onto this nice little package is the notion of suppressing it with a lightweight Gemtech. A light weight suppressed AR10 comes off like a damn good time! Otherwise, I'm Browning bound....
pfffffffttt you call that a rifle?
This is a 18in, kinda does it all. I dont really need my 16 anymore.

I love it suppressed. It softens the recoil, eliminates any flash, and you can shoot it without ears.
I would not worry about gouging of the live round. Doesn't hurt a thing unless you do it 10 times or something like that.
You would be insane to get rid of that.
Put some magnified optics on it and you can take deer all day long. Go to a red dot and wipe out some hogs.
If you gotta have a bolt gun, go to
www.savagearms.com and look at the various types they have. The have the "Hunter Series", the "Law Enforcement Series", etc and probably have any type you need.
Get one of those and keep the 10.

That's what I needed to hear.
Thanks

I like my Browning but I love my ARmalite
