 A2 Upper to Flattop?

Hey all,

I currently have a little older A2 that I want to change to a "flat top". Is it not possible to change out the upper receiver to a flat top upper? I then would keep my same barrel, bolt assembly, etc.

I am seeing the flat top uppers in the $100.00 price range but just want to make sure that's all there is to do it and that I'm not missing something.

If it's possible, any recommendations for said flat top? I have a DPMS rifle that I really like but the problem is the carrying handle gets in the way.

Thanks

Make sure the upper matches the barrel’s feed ramps.
M4 extended or not.

That very question is what brought me to this site and caused me to build 4
more.

Does your upper have a big hole in the front lug using a screw?

Thanks for the reply's. And I'm a pretty good shot, I am just a novice when it comes to building. So I'm not sure how to answer the above two questions.

FWIW this is one of the upper's I'm looking at: http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/ARR932-1.html

I'm trying to get some pics uploladed but having an issue with that too. #FML

In my humble opinion....dealer = so-so.....mfr = never heard of them.....wrong part if you have rifle ramps.

That receiver has M4 cuts.....these are the M4-type feed ramps that extend into the receiver.
I don't think you have these, but you'll have to verify.
Here are some examples....

Scroll down to this one....if you have rifle ramps on your barrel's extension

The screw/pivot pin business pertains to some older Colts. Since you have a DPMS it doesn't apply.

I dont see your location, but if you are near Northern VA, I'll help ya. You need a barrel wrench and upper vise block, and a little molly grease. Check the tacked threads in the DIY section.

Hell, I'd even consider swapping you a flat top for your A2 upper––I'm going the other way these days with my builds.

Thanks. That's a big help.

That dealer is literally 10 minutes from my house (North Fort Worth, Texas) so I'll give that one a look see at the shop.

Thanks for the offer, but alas, I'm in Fort Worth (Texas), so with Obama's gas at near $4.00/gal that would be a little expensive.

You might want to check the Hometown forums for another Arfcommer with a receiver block and wrench in your area.
