Typically a 7.62x39 AR barrel is designed to work on the "small frame" AR receiver.
There is also a challenge to make the communist 7.62 magazine work in a normal AR lower.
RRA has designed a special lower for this magazine.

The .308 DPMS is the large frame AR...it doesn't fit the small frame lower.
You're mixing large frame - small frame - and the 7.62 commie round.
You should be able to build a 7.62x39 using modified AR magazines on the small frame.
7.62x39 AR FAQ
Some of this is old data.

Yeah should work.
Looks like the trade-off is smaller capacity magazines.
Just a quick look around reveals that there are problems making this cartridge feed reliably in the AR.
Might want to wait to get some feedback from a few people running it in the AR.
Magazine brand would be key. And you may still have to tweak the mag.
The problem lies in the steep taper of the 7.62x39 case....that's what causes the extreme curve in the AK mag.
You'll also need a 7.62x39 bolt.
