Help learn a noob how to upgrade his G2
I found my missing G2 and ready to make it a weapon light.
When I purchased it, I was told it had an "upgraded bulb" and all that I know is, I get about 20 minutes of REALLY bright light. I'd like to change to a LED and trying to decode/figure out tailcaps and switches. I'd like a remote switch, but can't figure out the best for the money/what will fit/etc.
Also, is the HSP Thorntail worth it?

hopefully a little less than surefire prices

You have a few options...
Surefire P60L ($25-35)
Surefire KX4 conversion head ($50)
Malkoff M61L ($55)
LED drop in from ebay, dealextreme, etc ($10-20)
I recommend a Malkoff or TNVC drop in, with a Z59 tail cap switch.
All my G2's (3 of them) have the Malkoff drop in's.
The
TorchLAB McClicky tailcap mod is something you can do yourself and changes the standard G2 switch from a temp button and twist to constant on to a standard light press for temp on and click for always on and retains the twist off to lockout.
The Surefire KX4, Malkof and TNVC drop in heads are your best bets for upgrading to LED with still more output/runtime.

I just got one of these in the mail, installed it in my surefire old school weaponlight (6V with cable/momentary switch) and was stunned at the output difference.
Granted, the surefire bulb was old, but the change from dim yellow to bright white and the room illuminating ability of this LED is outstanding.
Lots of spill to light up a room, didn't go outside to check for throw.
Hands down, I'll buy another.
I second the Malkoff...
FYI, with the Nitrolon head of the G2, it doesn't work well for extended run times with the M61. For that model, I upgraded to a bezel off of a 6P.
It does work with the M61L as noted above... the heat generated by the M61 is higher, and it better conducted away from the drop in by the metal 6p head.
