Surefire Fury is a great light but when really needed....

I wanted to share my experience with you and let you decide if the Surefire Fury is right for your intended purpose of the light. I originally bought the flashlight to replace my Surefire 6PX Tactical because of the extra 300 lumens of light. I keep the flashlight along with my handgun on my nightstand. The past couple of nights we had our next door neighbor's car broken into and another car down the street so I've been trying to pay extra attention at night. Around midnight last night my dog started barking at the front window and there where a few other dogs around us barking too. So I holster my FNP45 and grab my Surefire Fury to investigate. The Fury did excellent as it lit up the entire street for nearly two blocks when I shined it down either way. Then it sounded like someone was in between my house and the neighbors house. I turned off the light and got in front of my house and tried to use the light to quickly flash around the corner to check. This is where the Fury fails. I was nervous and the Fury takes 3 clicks to get to 500 lumens. If you click too slow it won't be right, if you click too fast it won't be right. Twice I screwed it up by having it end up off once and then on 15 lumens. On my 6PXT I could press once to get what I wanted or just slightly press the switch and release to flash corners. Can't do that with the Fury.

In Summary: The Surefire Fury is excellent for normal daily use and as a spot light. Clicking to get to 500 lumens can be an issue under stress and it is horrible if you want to flash around a corner to investigate. I'll keep it for sure but I'll need to get a rail mounted light or get another 6PXT to use on the nightstand. This is just my experience and my opinion.

Excellent observation. Remember when flashlights turned "on" and "off"?

I'd like to see that light with a bezel you can turn to select the output, with the on/off switch relegated to just that duty. They do it on some other lights in their line, to select between visible and IR light.

Or even a model with JUST the 500 lumen flamethrower setting. Under stress is not the time to be fiddling with a combination lock to get to a specific function.

Glad I'm not the only one who wants this. I want my switch to do on/off, and that's it. Everything else can be handled on a locking bezel ring or something.

this

I know. It's spendy.

I just got an LX2 and it's pretty darn nice. It starts low with a half press and then 200 lum on full press. It's pretty dang bright. Surefire is supposed to release a 500 lum version at some point.

I like just 1 setting for SD

Even though I have a few surefires that have 2 settings

There will be a single mode "Tactical" version of the Fury coming out.

The low beam default was a major complaint of the new light.

It is great for a search light, but not suited for tactical duty.

Why doesn't Surefire make their lights high lumen first then low, this seems way more useable than the other way around. I had a complaint about the GPX pro, it was a great light but I gave to friend because I hated the low then high feature. This just seem really stupid idea on Surefire's part.

I like the way the LX2 is set up. Low with easy press, High with full press. I don't like the full power blast for general moving about in the dark, but it's nice to know that if I just press a lttle harder, it gets real dang bright out. I think the new E1B "backup" is set for high power first and click on low setting.

For the Fury,
I think it may be to get some "B" model sales giving momentum to the release of the tactical version.

The G2X comes both in tactical and a multi-function.
You should have bought the tactical instead of the pro.

I prefer my lights to have off and on only. Not a fan of strobe or reduced lumens.

I realize I should have bought the tactical after I bought the pro, but I figured at the time it would be like my E1B back-up full power first, the low. I should have read the package better, I will know from now on though to watch it when I buy Surefire lights.

+1. Wont buy a wml for the same reason. Sweet light, sorry interface.

I recently got a jetbeam bc40 for outside stuff. Twist for hi/lo, click on off. 830 lumens on high. Good to 300 yards.

Only downside is that its made in china.

I was lookin at the 2012 surefire catalog, and it looks like some of their new lights are programmable. Hopefully that may alleviate some of the problems by just giving you the option to pre-program the light to behave how you want it. Now that we are 3 months into 2012, it would be nice if they started actually selling the new stuff!

Yup. I have a older lumamax and the only thing I would change is to make the dim setting a little dimmer. I like that if I have to push it in a hurry it is full on. I also have a single cell insight that goes to full on but you can hold the button down to dim it.
