What's the consensus on Elzetta AR Mount and Shotgun Mount? I was shopping PA's site and came across them. I need a decent but not bank breaking light mount for my home defense 870 and possibly one for my M4gery.

I just purchased one and it's plenty solid. It was a little confusing putting it together. I got the mount along with the matching Elzetta M60 flashlight. I was under the impression that the M60 would mount without any additional brackets or spacers. There was no way the light was going to stay clamped. The clamp comes with two spacers but there is no way you need both. I had to fool around with the spacers and trim them down (as instructed). Eventually I only used one trimmed spacer but it took me a while to figure it out since I thought the light should fit directly in the clamp

I bought an Elzetta ZSL-M60 tactical flashlight and an ZFH1500 thumbscrew mount. It work quite well but you need to sure to tighten up the thumbscrew tight or the light will slip forward a bit. I had that issue the first time I took my rifle to the gun range. The second time I made sure to tighten the thumbscrew up and I fired a 120 rounds and it stayed tight. The shotgun will have quite a more recoil than an AR15 rifle. I may try a shotgun mount and see how it works. Right now I'm using tri rails with TLR-1 lights on my shotguns.

I have one on my AR and I'd really like to put one on my shotgun, but I haven't yet.

I put enough rounds through the AR to get it good and hot and the mount never budged at all.

It would not go around a MOE handgaurd without modification. Decided not to dremel the MOE and went to an A2. The tail cap would be pressed any time the sling was used and the light was damn near always on. The sling loop was in the way of the tail cap making it almost useless. Removal of the sling took care of hitting the tail cap and turning the light on but there is a reason for slings. Once off, the loop for the sling was still in the way of the tail cap making it almost useless.

Take a good look at the picture you posted. I was running the exact same set up. Would work Ok for a low end set up if you remove all sling parts but I wasn't willing to do that. The light mount went into the trash.

There are other sling mounts that you can install on the hand guards (MOE or standard). IWC makes a few.

Not sure what problems were encountered above but the Elzetta ZFH1500 works with MOE handguards without modification:

The Mount is designed so that the standard front sling swivel can activate the flashlight tailcap. This is a very popular benefit of the ZFH1500. However, those not wishing to utilize this feature can simply install the flashlight further forward to clear the sling swivel. The skeleton slot in the Mount allows rotation of the tailcap when installed in a forward position.

Check out this video for a demonstration:

Didn't want to try to force it on the MOE so I stopped.

Sling swivel activation doesn't work too well on an A2 which I was trying to use it on. I didn't / don't want to add a whole bunch of ad-ons to the front of the rifle thus the reasoning for trying. It was a bad choice for my use on an A2 that I carry around the farm.
