Is SureFire GX2 Tactical Suitable for AR15 Mount?

I was thinking about getting a light to mount on my AR15 and came across the G2X. While reading the FAQ in this forum, I noticed a rundown of the G2 that states it is not suitable as a weapon light:
Surefire G2 ––––- Great cheap little lightweight polymer personal light. It can be fitted with Z32 shock isolated bezel to make a reasonable weapon light, but not a true weapon light with battery retention.

The Surefire G2X Tactical light uses an LED and has different (improved) specifications over the G2 that is used in the Flashlight FAQ comparison.

Is this light sufficient for mounting on an AR15 and retaining its ability to produce light, even after firing? This light is 200 lumens, and sports a 2 hour runtime; is that normal for these kinds of lights? I am new to this and would appreciate any feedback.

Should be just fine on a 5.56.

I ran one on my gun for a three day, two night carbine course just fine. Best light out there for the price IMO.

It will probably work well for a while, perhaps never fail, but personally I would recommend the surefire g2l. It's built to withstand the recoil a little better.

Thanks guys. How does it compare to the Fenix TA-20 for about $13 more?

I have one and it has held up just fine on 5.56. It is not as nice as a purpose made weapon light but it does work. I'm not sure if recoil would eventually wear the springs.

Surefire designs there lights to function after shock from being hit, dropped ect. I have a original G2 mounted under my barrel and it functions fine. Surefire makes the best lights in my opinion, they are rock solid and shock from recoil will not be an issue.

SureFire's official stance is that the G2X is NOT recommended for use as a weapon light.

Doesn't mean it wouldn't and hasn't worked out okay for some. But they say don't do it.

G2L is good to go. Been there done that.

What mounts are you all using? Looking at the G2L.

There was an article in SWAT about them being used in EAG carbine classes. If I remember they were mounted on BCM AR's, 6 different guns and had a total of 6-7000 rds withno issues at that time. Surefire works.

I'm using a gear sector mount on magpul forearm. Tucks it in very nicely against the FSB. What kind of rail will you be mounting it on?

You should look at the tacked "pics of your lights mounted" thread at the top of this forum. Plenty of similar rails, just find something you like the looks of there.
