I want a peq type laser.

I need something that has a nice and bright visible laser, IR laser, and a IR Illuminator. I know about the DBAL class 1 stuff. and I've played with it some. It is very nice, but the IR laser seems lacking. Would a PEQ-15 be a better unit? I've had one before but I sold it to (ironically) buy my NVG. So I've not used one with NVG's on. I want something I can mount on a spotting scope or my thermal eye and designate targets for my buddies while we hog hunt. as for the illuminator part, is the Vampire the best thing going right now?

If I buy a restricted item, can I use my mil ID card to order it?

The LDI Class 1 is the best option going so far, & I agree it is lacking. Some love it & some don't but it is something of an option. The total lack of an illuminator makes it into a kind of castrated (yet expensive dress up) unit I have no great love for it as you can tell but that's just my opinion. The15 is nice but apparently restricted to Military & LE use only - No personal use. The Surefire Vampire lights are a very nice illumination option & TNVC has The Torch, both worth looking into...... Good Luck

No. They're restricted to organizational purchases only, no individual purchases.

As for illuminator, the Vampires are perfect for the Class 1 lasers, as they don't over power the laser but are strong enough for illumination. There are plenty of much stronger illuminators, such as the Torch.

You can find a PEQ15 - just keep your eyes out on the EE and on the internets. Probably set you back around $2,000.

Personally, I wouldn't buy a DBAL level 1 IR unit until all of the battery drain issues are worked out.

Umm, you can pretty much find ANYTHING if you know where to look and who to talk to, but that still don't make things that are not obtainable through LEGAL channels legal to own.....................

I know a guy that can get ya machine guns, grenades, and all the cocaine you can handle, but, I am not so sure I would be buying any of those items........ Just sayin'

I'd take a look at these two stickied threads first.

Just to clarify, PEQ-15's are NOT illegal to own or use. Their sale by the manufacturer is restricted to MIL/LEO/.gov agencies (agencies only) by Federal Regulations (not law). Some are available on the secondary market. Some contend that resale is restricted by regulation as well, but FDA's authority only extends to manufacturers, not the purchaser, so it is NOT against regulations for a purchaser to resell the unit , whatever agreement they may have with the manufacturer. Never-the-less, a significant number of the units on the market are likely stolen .gov property, so if you decide to buy one, you are taking the risk that the unit is stolen and could be confiscated without compensation in the future.

The Class I units on the market now are not bad at all IMO. The initial versions were weak. But the current versions are plenty powerful enough for most hunting or defensive applications. The lack of an illuminator is disappointing, but the availability of good quality IR lights on the market mostly negates this.

I've had one of the battery drain issued DBALs and LDI wouldn't help me out. Granted, I called near close of business on a friday but i would think I'd still get some sort of response other than user error.

I'd be in a market for a PEQ15 because of this or will even get a Level 1 IR Laster if Insight ever made it

DHS is now taking tha position that all PEQ-15s, PEQ -2As etc. are stolen government property. They are contacting sellers on Ebay now and demanding their return. There have been 2 PEQ-2As on Ebay in the last two weeks, both were pulled before the auction was over.

Did DHS pull the auctions or were they just ended early by the seller because some one made an offer and didn't want the Ebay digi-trail?

I have seen similar things going on, but, if you look, there are PEQ-14's and 15's up all the time, some out of country (I don't even want to know what the hell they (DHS) would say on that one) and are being sold often........ I have read Ebay's policy a couple times, and have yet to see anything from them other than the stolen property thing that would prevent someone from selling them, or even buying them from Ebay........ Who knows?

Now, where did I cache that stuff???

DHS can take that position all they want, but it's not legally enforceable.

The FDA regualtions DO NOT apply to secondary sales. That is beyond the scope of FDA's regulatory authority. Every time they are directly confronted on the issue, they give a non-answer, like "it's our policy," or they just restate the regulation without any clarification. They WANT you believe they have the authority to regulate secondary sales and even private ownership, but they do not.

Having said that, I strongly support efforts to recover genuinely stolen .gov property.

I know their closed for the holidays as of the 16th., but call us and we would be glad to assist if needed to send an email to our folks. LDI has some pretty good CS so not sure who you talked with.

Bottom line is the i2 unit is lame. LDI needs to nut up and quit pushing this weak neutered way overpriced system that wrecks batteries.
