New rail mounted light mounts from IWC and Haley Strategic Partners.

In two versions.
Dropwing
Thorntail
You asked for it. An IWC mount for rails.
Very nice. Just when you think you have seen it all. Very inovative.
carbine length handguards will be far less of a pain in the ass now, bout time.

Kudos to IWC for getting this out - my DBAL and 952V have been
screaming for it!
It's a step forward for most set ups for sure.
So I spoke too soon - they M952V isn't listed, justthe 600/300 Scout series.

There is
NO aftermarket support for the M952V! Gear Sector says theirs is "in development" and IWC has been saying the same thing.
Help!
The design of the mount allows a scout or a ring mounted light using the same mount.

Havent watuched the vid as i dont have audio right now.
Im interested in the thorntail. Is it possible to reverse or change sides with a 12o'clock mounting to have the light offset at either at 1 or 11?
It almost looks like the arm can be reversed but I wanted to ask as I have seen different pics of it with it in different configs.

It appears that you are correct with regards to the Thorntail. He mentions that it can be used in 8 different positions.
From the video it seems the dropwing will fit on pretty much any handguard. It looked initially like it would only work with the TRX type rails, but he had it mounted on KAC rails. Pretty psyched in that case. I'm not a fan of how most offsets fit with a vampire scout and a DBAL, but this looks much better.

Yes. It is reversible. You can run it on either side, or on the top/bottom.
THORNTAIL by Haley Strategic Partners and Impact Weapons Components
These are looking great! I can't wait for the M951 mount for the MOE handguard.
So how is HSP involved in this mount?

Haley apparently designed and sells it. IWC builds it.
Does anyone know if the dropwing mount will work with knights armament URX II/III.

I would think that Travis tried that. I'll ask.

Travis says: "yes the Dropwing fits just perfect where the front sight can still be activated".
Give me a minute, I'll post a picture.
Here you go. This is a
pre-production, unanodized Dropwing with the URX III that is on a gun that belongs to Travis. The head of the light was removed for clarity of the mount.
Again, this is not a production mount picture. But it shows how the Dropwing will fit on the URX rails.
I customer sent IWC an email this morning, asking "Do you have a photo of a
DROPWING with a G2 on a VTAC Extreme rail?'
So I sent him this...

Can you provide some pictures / details on how the Thorntail mount can be reversed so that it mounts on the 12 o'clock rail with the light to the left of the FSB (as you looks down the rifle)?
Thanks!
#3 is threaded on both sides allowing ambi mounting.
MOUNT-N-SLOT
Really great design. IWC will be getting more of my money.
Question –– how do the rails that extend past the handguard do duringside impact. IE rifle standing up tips over and light hits first. Bent rail?

I'll see what I can do when I get home. I have a pre-production model. So you want it on the non-ejection port side?
Why no support for the M951/952?

Oh man... as someone who still uses his old M95 series lights, I can only imagine what a horrific bear it would be for balance to have one on a cantilevered mount...
The M95 series is great if you use them as issued on a side rail and used ones are affordable enough to get a great light at a low price of entry, once you start putting money into them, you may as well start with upgrading the body. I doubt there'd be a huge market for upgrades to the M951.

Except the mount spacing is now shared by the M620 series as well.

Which I understand is a big complaint about the M620 since most folks going with a Scout-type light prefer to mount them in some sort of off-set - the M620 doesn't offer much advantage over the M952V. Slightly smaller body and tailcap - but doesn't allow use of the XM07 tailcap for those who like both remote switch and click function.
The M620, IMHO, is a pretty lazy offering on Surefire's part - rather than designing a QD mount that would work with the M300/600 mounting interface that most people prefer - they backwards designed the light to fit the M93 mount, eliminating most of the advantages of the Scout series. Considering that the M95 PIP had a reduced diameter body that was the same size as the Scout light anyways - the real advantage of the M300/600 series was the small mounting footprint. Or am I missing something about the M620? (Not being sarcastic if there's an advantage I haven't heard of)
~Augee
I totally agree. I replaced my M620 body with a M600 body at my expense just so I could use the LaRue offset scout mount.
Earl has been busy lately. I just sent him a note about the 951/952 question.

Non-ejection port side is correct

I've got a M952 which needs a more streamlined mount. I was hoping this would be it.. Replace the bulb with a LED one from TNVC or Malkoff and I'm set.
Well here's the deal. This was a new mount design, and IWC/HSP wanted to see if there was any interest before rolling out a lot of versions. There has been a considerable amount of interest in these new mounts, so you 95x guys will be happy. Think January.

Won't be picking them up in the near future, but I'd deff like to try them. If anyone wants to send me some to try out on loan for fit, I can add them to my light mount comparison thread.

Does the Thorntail place the light mount in the same position as the Dropwing? The dropwing claims to be compatible with laser systems, but the thorntail doesn't. I'd rather use the thorntail, but I don't think the DD rail systems would work with it.

I want the same thing, and with the sheer numbers of the M-series out there I'd say there would be LOTS of demand rather than very little.
Most of the time you see someone dumping their M-series stuff, I'd say it's due to the crappy mounting options that have been offered aftermarket.
IWC claimed to have something in the works not too long ago...

Sorry if I missed this, but will the Dropwing fit a 7" Omega rail? It looks like the front hand guard cap might interfere and the holes in teh rail may be too small, but want to be sure.

THORNTAIL would be the correct one for the Omega 7".

Thanks, much appreciated.

I saw that the Dropwing starts shipping on 12/16, when does the Thorntail start?

Any chance of a future Dropwing/Thorntail compatible with the SCAR without having to shave the front sling mount?
I jumped out and bought a THORNTAIL. Looking forward to it. However, that Mount-n-slot stuff looks awful. Anybody know when these will ship?
B
I hate to start the "will this fit with this" feed but figured mine is a very common rail. Will the dropwing work on a Daniel Defense Lite Rail? It looks like the dropwing would work on the 45 deg slot of most rails with vent holes.

Come again?

Are these going to be available with the 1" light ring? I'm not seeing that on the order page but I see reviews and pics with that configuration.
Will the dropwing fit a Larue rail? I reall like how compact the mount is and reaaly want to order one ASAP, as long as it is compatible with my rail.

Post a link to the LaRue rail you have and I'll reply.

Both DROPWING and THORNTAIL hav a 1" ring option available to order now at Haley Strategic Partners, and next week on IWC.

DD's LITE rail needs THORNTAIL.
