Surefire X300 Serial number
I just got an X300 that had 110 lumen packaging, but was assured to me by the online retailer to be 170 lumen.
Talking to Surefire, they say that they didn't track serial numbers for the 170 lumen change. Also many 170 lumen models got packaged in 110 lumen boxes since they had the old packaging left over. They said that any X300 made this year should be a 170 lumen version. I've read that many 110 lumen X300's rated at 170 or better in the past. Some speculate that the 170 lumen versions are no different, yet others with connections to surefire say that the newer 170 lumen versions are even brighter than older 110 lumen versions that rated higher. (Maybe the 170 is a definitive guarantee of 170 lumen or 170 at half battery?)
Anyways. I would have felt tons better had I received my x300 with the 170 lumen packaging. If I paid full price for a flashlight that is now outdated by a newer generation I'll be pissed. So I'd like to know what other people's serial numbers are for x300's in 170 lumen packaging. (To see if mine is relatively close.)
Mine is # A39514
SF is right on the serialization. There may be no rhyme or reason to it unless you can verify one within a slight variation of serial# that is proven 170L. I'd trust SF on telling you it is the 170L light. If anything, it is probably slightly more.
Just recieved the new 170 lumen version today, in 170 packaging. Serial # is A51407.
Mine is also a 170 that was packaged as 110. Ser. A37979. Compared side by side to some of my other SF lights, it is definitely 170 lumens MINIMUM. It may still be underrated at that.
I just received mine today. New package 170 lumens and new Surefire logo as well!! S/N A51459. But just the same output as the other 3 X300s I have and they are all older then 2 years. I'm happy with new or old...
