What is the best way to mount a surefire scout to a standard midlength handguard?

I have mine on the right side rail, all the way forward. I am right handed. Then I bought an Surefire SR-07 switch for it (that is the switch with the built in picatinny rail mount) and put it on the top rail. When you grab the rail with your left hand, your thumb wraps up and around the top rail to activate the light. Very solid grip and works great.

The stock mount is more than strong enough. Just use a quarter and stick it in one side of the thumbscrew (the little slot) and tighten it down about a half a turn past finger tight. It will never move. If it ever does, a little blue loctite will fix that, but mine don't move.

Thanx but let me clarify . I meant how do you attach it to a standard plastic handguard with no rails?

Oh, in that case, no. You can get top and bottom rails that bolt onto to the stock handgards. But if you want to mount a surefire scout light, I would recommend getting a drop in replacement quad rail. They aren't very expensive and you can do it yourself without any tools. I recommend getting a stock removal tool for ease of doing it, but if you have a buddy that can pull back the detla ring for you, you can change out your rails fast.

There is no "best way" to attach your light to a standard plastic handguard. They do make rails that attach to a standard handguard, but they look kinda out-of-place, and I've seen people who have drilled holes in the handguard and bolted a short section of rail to it, but it's, well, crude. You really need to just get a railed handguard and be done with it. The MI that CovertChannels references is a good piece, and very reasonably priced. Although I use mostly DD stuff, I have an MI and it's very solid and easy to install. If you don't want rails all over the place, you could always get a Magpul MOE and just attach one short rail on it for your light....also very reasonably priced.

yeah I have an Omega 9.0 but i took it off my BCM to use on a new Beowulf. I am starting to like my old handguard on the AR15 again. I was just wondering if they had come up with a way to attach tac lights on them yet. I don't realy like the Elzetta light off the FSB either. I'm thinking about getting one of those picatiny sections that bolts into the handguard on the bottom if that's the only option. Eventually I will end up buying another rail. Another symptom of the BRD

If you need ammo for your new Beowful, I know a place that has the best deals on ammo. Let me know.

There may be a better way...

But I was determined to keep the standard handguard on this one and wanted a light also. I found this angled bolt on rail piece that works just fine for mounting a light and/or bi-pod.

Hi McCray,

Impact Weapons Components will have a mount for the Scout / Standard hand guard available on our website in about a month. I'll bookmark this thread and let you know when it's available for order / shipment.

Thanks,

mount it to the front site base. it will be very hard to actuate the tail cap if you mount the light on the bottom of the handguards.
