So, I was looking for a rail system for my AR. Its a Windham Weaponry SRC AR. I was originally going to just put a drop in rail system on it. I'm curious about putting a full rifle length floating rail system on it. Would i have to have my front sight rail milled down? What all is involved that I might not know about? Any pictures? Are there systems that are notched for my front sight rail so I don't have to modify the rifle? Any input would be greatly appreciated. I tried searching the topic first with no luck.
Thanks,
Nik C.
Daniel Defense has the FSB series rails, that sounds like just what you are looking for. Or you could take off your FSB and put on a low pro gas block and use any of the FF rifle length rails. I personally have a 16" carbine length gas system barrel and am running a YHM gas block with a MI T15 FF rail.

Hope this helps you out....
I like the Troy MRF product line, particularly the
MRF-RX which is 13.8"
They make a 12" that has a cut-out for the front site block.

For either you cut off the delta ring assemble and the rail clamps on to the milspec barrel nut. It is very simple to do, takes < 10 min from start to installed if you have a dremel.
The Build It Yourself section here has a tutorial on installing several types, the MRF series included:

Samson makes some great gear as well. Their Evolution rail is great, and they offer both an EX and add on, that allows you to mount it around your stock FSB, but if I were you I'd either chop your FSB, or get a lo-pro gas block and get and uninterrupted rifle length rail. You'll need a flip up front sight, but you'll have better sight radius and more real estate for your rifle.
I found one of their older models that is similar to the troy posted here, it was super cheap on the EE used, so I picked it up and I was very impressed with the fit, finish, and quality. I have a 16" middy built up with one, and I have a flip up block in the cut out, so it stays out of line of sight from the Aimpoint 3X combo I have on that rifle. I built it for my wife, but I liked it so much......I kept it.
If you like the Vicker's style of light mounting and light choice these cut out rails are great, just make sure you know what length you are buying for your rifle's FSB position, carbine 7" or mid-length 9".
