 Homemade Paracord Sling (pics!)

I just finished making an adjustable paracord sling. I used mil spec 550 paracord and made a 40" section of paracord sling attached to 2 side release clips that accept 1.25" nylon straps. This way I can adjust the length of the sling as well as have a quick detachment if needed. I was basically too cheap to buy a ready made sling and thought this would be pretty slick anyway. Let me know how you think it turned out. Let me know if I should rock it, or throw it out because it sucks!

Bad ass. Great way to have some extra para cord with you for other uses. How did you braid it?

I used a Trilobite weave. I actually took an art class in high school that taught macrame...basically knot tying. Here is a link to a kid on youtube that actually explains how to do it pretty well.

If you really want one I can make you one...but I would need some materials...and it takes a few hours to do a weave that long...

So far playing around it seems to function pretty well and do what it was intended to do. I think I do want to find a different mounting option for the rear though.

How much paracord is that?

I started out with 100ft of paracord and the part of the sling that was made of paracord is 40". When I was done there was about 20ft of paracord left over. So there is about 80ft of cord in the sling.

Go for it. Its really not hard and should not cost you more than $15-$20.

Hope you don't mind if I climb on your thread.

Here's a sling I made from 100 feet of paracord

I used "Slatt's rescue belt" weave because I wanted to be able to pull the cordage out quickly if I needed to. I used 7 loops to get the right length with 100 feet of paracord. It took several hours.

Looks good man. Maybe we should start a "homemade" sling thread.

There is somebody else on here that makes custom paracord slings to sell. They were convertible.

These are some of mine I used to sell here. Convertible and adjustable by 5-7 inches.

Would you mind telling us where you get the buckles and snap hooks?

Check out Strapworks. They have everything you need. However, I will say that their powder coating isn't the greatest. It would be bette if they weren't using hardware that was already chromed. But good luck finding that. Their HK clips are good.

Use the coupon code ar15 and save 10 or 15%.

Also, I think that is the 3/8 buckle. They are expensive though. Order wholesale if you have even the slightest need for a bunch.

Here is my contribution to the thread.

I use either standard US swivels made by Grove Tech or HK clips, USA made commercial grade III 550 paracord and Mil-spec 1" webbing. My standard length at it's shortest adjustment is 33" (loop to loop) with about 12" of adjustment in the webbing. I thread the webbing and sew the ends so there are no loose ends flapping around (that drives me frickin nuts). There is about 60' of cord in them and the wide part is weaved on separately just in case you do need some cord, leaving you with an intact sling.

^is that a king cobra weave?

The sling is woven as a single cobra weave, the wide part is a King Cobra. I weave the cord back and forth between the swivels / HK clips so that there are 8 cords making up the core. I do this to get as much cord into the main part of the sling as I can without making it too bulky but be substantial enough to be a sling. There is about 40' of cord in the main body. The wide part of the weave is about 12" long and holds about 20' of cord total. I did this so that one could remove that 20' of cord if needed and still retain the integrity of the sling, and it also acts like a pad, spreading the load over a larger part of your shoulder. If the wide part is removed, all I would have to do is reweave on some cord to bring it back into it's original configuration, assuming someone didn't want to do it themselves. I sell these at local gun shows and they are stunning when installed on a rifle.
