Quantity of Magpul XTM Rail Covers needed

I have been looking on different sites trying to determine how many XTM kits I need to order to cover the 12" Samson rail on my AA 16" Tactical Elite Upper. I am probably missing the easy answer out there somewhere. The kit says it will cover one rail of a carbine length handguard, but I can't find how long exactly a carbine lenth rail is. And yes, I am new to the AR world if you couldn't tell...

A carbine rail is approximately 7".

Disregarding space for accessories, you need approximately 6.85 XTM panels per 12" section of rail which works out to 28 XTM panels to completely cover a full 12" quad rail. XTM panels come in packages of 4 so you'll need to 7 packages.
Also considering ordering more than one color if you can to do some XTM camo on the handguard.

Thanks for the help! I am definitely going to be ordering in different colors to get the camo look. I think I'll order 2 of each color and 1 black.
