How do remove my Colt rear buis.

I just bought my first AR (COLT 6940) and I already had a Simmons 3-9X50 laying around from a muzzle loader I had in the past. I have the intention of getting an AIMPOINT a little while down the road but I have a wedding and bills to catch up on. So I bought some Weaver quad lock 1" extra high mounts and set forth on the install. The scope will not sit on top of the rail with the rear buis. I cant seem to figure out what kind of tool is required to remove it.

Sorry for the nooby question lol

If it's a stock Colt 6940, it has a Matech rear sight.
It removes using a 3mm Allen key on the right hand side of the sight.

I got the rear buis off and got the mounts bolted on. But the scope still doesn't clear the rail.

You may need a riser on the rail. Might check LaRue Tactical to see if they have something that will work for you.

I kinda guessed I needed a riser but I can't justify spending all the money Larue wants for their riser when this is just going to be used temporarily till I get enough cash flow to get an AIMPOINT.

My advice is to put the matech sight back on an just shoot irons for now until you can get your aimpoint. I did that for my 6920 an I feel it was better for me long term because now if my aimpoint fails I am still good to go with BUIS as far as making hits on target.

Well I returned the mounts I had bought and replaced them with the Weaver see through quad lock mounts and that did the trick. I'm pretty good with the buis. At least I believe I could kill a zombie at 100 yards. I cant wait to try out the scope!!!
