EOTech 512 vs. Aimpoint ML2
So I've been thinking about optics. My next firearms related purchase is going to be some sort of optic for my Spikes M4. I've narrowed it down to two choices: the EOTech 512 and Aimpoint ML2.
I've never shot with either of them, so I don't have any experience for personal preference. The ML2 is an only like $25 more on sale right now... but I'd have to kick in another $115 for a decent cantilever scope mount.
So my question, for users of both or either, is if anyone can tell me if the ML2 is worth the buy-up. I'll spend the extra money if its actually worth it, so I appreciate the feedback.
Thanks everyone.
Just went through this myself.
Went with a ML3 Larue mount package deal. The more I read the I read about problems with Eotechs even though that's what I was gonna get. Got talked into Aimpoint and went with the 2MOA dot.
I've owned & used both. As much as I prefer the Eotech's circle-dot reticle, the Aimpoint has insane battery life, a more ergonomic control setup and fewer reported problems.

Try to look at them both. I was fortunate enough to have a local shop that carried Aimpoints and Eotechs. The Eotech was MUCH easier to look through for me, liked the reticle better etc so I got an Eotech.
I've never had a battery run out on an Eotech (I have 2). I do have an Aimpoint micro on my shotgun, had it for about 9 months and battery was dead on it.... Change batteries in you Eotech every 6 months when you do your smoke detector batteries and you'll probably never have a problem..
Try them both and get which one you like the function of, both are great.
I've never shot with either of them
You need to. Going to depend on what you like to shoot better. The EO vs AP is never ending. Once you read through all the BS, you will see that the AP is a simple low power led where the Eotech is a more complex power hungry optic.
In these discussions, there are so many people who are dead set on one or the other and will defend their opinions to the death that you really need to check them out for yourself and figure out what is right for you.

Very true. I personally like the EoTech reticle but the Aimpoint, to me, had a few more features that it won out.
I prefer the Eotech reticle over the Aimpoint. I own both optics, so I do see the pro's and con's for both. If it was for HD I would say the Aimpoint for the simple fact you leave it on, but if I could only have one it would be the Eotech.
I like the Eotech reticle just a little bit more. I like the switch, battery life, and durability of the Aimpoint a lot more. The buttons on the Eotech take much longer to manipulate than the knob on the Aimpoint. Plus, the Aimpoint's battery life allows you to just leave it on. If it's a defensive rifle, the last thing you want at ohdarkthirty is to grab the rifle and "pokepokepokepokepokepokepoke" until you get the brightness right.
Why won't Eotech just fix the firmware so that the sight turns on at whatever brightness setting it was on when it shut off? That would fix my biggest complaint with the sight. Pushing just one button wouldn't bother me in the least.
