Glass dust inside ACOG
I got this new ACOG off EE and after a month, a huge chunk of debris / lint / something is visible from the eye-piece. It is apparently floating around due to recoil. I tried shaking it and hitting it a bit but it is stuck in a visible location.
It is of course invisible while shooting, and in all other respects, it is an A1 product. The green horseshoe is as good as it gets, except maybe my other TA11J, which has minor dots on the objective end. (Not really visible unless you look hard so I left it alone)
I am just amazed at Trijicon's lack of QC sometimes.
Should I send the one with debris back? Are they going to fix it or send me another one? I hear horror stories about Trijicon's lack of customer service and don' really want to wait 3 months for a replacement. Plus maybe the debris will float away? What to expect from Trijicon?
My understanding of optics suggests dust / lint / debris does not make any difference, correct me if I am wrong.
The optics should not have any lint or debris inside period. It is supposed to be nitrogen filled and airtight. If there is lint in there, it came from the factory that way or lost its airtight seal along the way. Definitely give them a call and have them pay your shipping expenses back to them.
I wouldn't hope the lint goes away, as it could return at any given time. Regardless if you see it or not while shooting, I would get it fixed to have the piece of mind it is still airtight should you drop it in a puddle.

so let me get this straight. you purchase it off the EE from an individual and blame Trijicons QC people? did you ever think maybe the person before you messed up the optic?
I have successfully used a Zerostat to cause objects on the inside of the lens to disengage. It shouldn't be in there at all, but I don't know that I would blame Trijicon for a used product. Brand new, in the box? I would send it back. Used on EE? You pay your money, you take your chances. Try contacting the seller, if it was misrepresented. If it wasn't, then send it to Trijicon and get it repaired.

Oh, and this is a Zerostat:
It cancels static charges. If you know someone that's into vinyl records, and is REALLLLY serious about it, you might be able to borrow one.

It came from the factory that way. The stuff inside was not visible when I first got it so the recoil shook it into a visible position.
I don't see an obvious way to insert a big piece of debris into an ACOG behind the lenses, by any user. It is waterproof for sure. How do I know, I wash all my optics with plenty of water. No leaks and no fogging. Both ends are waterproof and the turrets are waterproof.
It is a factory screw-up.

so did you get the ACOG of the EE or from trijicon? your first post says you got it off the EE
I hate to the break the news to you but there are a lot of new Trijicon products available on EE. NIB, as in never used, in box, with warranty/registration card.
I assure you it is new, with a serial number consistent with new models and tested to be completely waterproof. The seals are 100% good.
The only person who have used it is - me, for about a month and to suggest that a user can somehow insert a big piece of dust/debris inside between the lenses is an insult to one's intelligence. I have had ACOGs since late 90's and have never seen this before.
Secondly, I don't believe you can get ACOGs directly from Trijicon but have to use their authorized retailers. A new scope bought on EE would probably fall in the 'gray market' territory.
This is irrelevant to the problem at hand.
I'd send it back. Call Trijicon and get an RMA # and get it fixed. Used or new there is no way that is acceptable on a $1000 optic.
I'd be willing to be though that the spec is actually tiny but due to the magnification it appears huge. I have a TA44Sg-10 that has a tiny spec in it but I just don't want to send it in to get fixed.
Even US Optics has issues and they are in the $2000+ range so it's not unheard of even when an optic is assembled in a "clean room".
Smack it on a phone book. Seriously. Its very common for this type of thing to happen even in high dollar optics. There is grease inside the tube that it will stick to and you will probably never see it again. If this sounds crazy to you do some research and you will find more of the same. Some manufacturers will also recommend this before you send it in.
...
Updated with pics.
I was able to get it to move with the phone book approach but it doesn't go anywhere and inevitably it just bounces back to a new and interesting place.
Contacting Trijicon, will see what they say.
it is possibly glass dust... had a problem with my 1.5x16 with what looked like fogging... they had it returned inside of two weeks.... I had about 5 years of monthly matches ( 135+ rounds per match) through it at the time

that does look like glass dust
What is glass dust?

those little teeny tiny shavings of glass that happen when you cut it, they are so thin they look alot like dust but in fact are glass
what you see there is actually glass
Is that a fairly common occurrence?

I've never seen it, even in low quality optics. Shit happens though so see if Trijicon will make it right.

I would contact trijicon.
While not common it does happen, if that little sliver was barely hanging on after being cut the glass could have been assembeled and then after a few jolts from the recoil it probably detached from the glass and is not stuck where you see it.
