 Nikon M223 2-8 Nikoplex vs. B600 reticle

Well, the Nikon free mount deal ends Sunday, so I'll probably miss it again this year. I want something so I can see (damn eyes getting older), paper punching and possible rodent control. 200-300 yards. I don't care if it's in stock, I can wait.

I've been looking at the Nikon M223 2-8 , but am stuck on the Nikoplex vs. BDC600 reticle. What's the real difference between the two scopes? Are they internally the same, but the BDC600 just has a few circles on the reticle?

I looked at them back to back at the NRA convention.

Internally the two are identical. The difference is that to adjust for drop, on the Nikoplex you have to turn the turret, which means looking away from the scope. For the BDC 600, you just elevate and use the desired reticle. Thus, the BDC is a bit quicker than the Nikoplex. It's also one less thing to go wrong.

I bought the BDC 600... I figured the extra ten bucks was worth it (they were selling the things for $299 for the BDC 600 and $289 for the Nikoplex, both with the included mount and the killflash). It sure seems to be a nice scope, especially at those prices.

Thanks for the input. I decided to go with the BDC600. Went back to Optics Planet (best price I saw), and appearantly someone needs to buy a calendar. They ended the promo early.

Oh well...

ETA: Called Optics Planet today 4/22/12. There's confusion on when it was actually supposed to end. Waiting for a call back on Monday.

Now when you shot out to 500 it should be faster to use the bdc and get the right hold. You could use the turrets instead with the m223 correct me if i am wrong.

Correct. Once you have it set at, lets say 100 yards, and use the Spot-On program from nikon to figure out your range with your bullet/load just move the reticle for your next shot. Or, if you are shooting at a known distance you can dial it in with the turrets. The nice part of that is Nikons turrets are zero reset, so if you keep track of your clicks you can just zero the turrets and easily reset to your 100 yard (or whatever) zero.
