Beta-C mag problems. (Update with answer from Betaco)

I can't, for the life of me, get my Beta to run anymore.

When I first got it, it ran fine, but now I've loaded/unloaded it about 6~7 times, it won't feed anymore.

In both rifles I've tried it in, the rounds will, instead of being fed at an upward angle, feed straight forward, and hit the receiver/barrel extension.

Upon further inspection of the magazine, I found that there are two deep grooves worn into the front of the tower, allowing this to happen.

I've called Betaco, but since they are at SHOT, I'm expecting a call back next week.

Has anybody else experienced problems like these?

Here is the feed-tower wear:

(edited, did some figuring, and 7 loads/unloads is about all I've run through it)

CANT SEE PICS, (work thing)

I would replace the tower or try more graphite lube. hell both.

the tower is a wear item.

I thought everyone was so hell bent on no use of graphite?

That sucks!
clearly whatever plactic they use is junk or maybe some kinda cleaner attacked it, but that comes back to the plastic being junk. Maybe over heated, again wrong type of plastic.
I havent screwed with one, it that part replacable?

Yeah, it's replaceable.

Cleaner did not attack it.

If they wont send you a new tower you might try putting some epoxy on the edge and filing it back into shape.

THE PLASTIC IS NOT THE BEST.

your supposed to run some graphite in the mag I give the metal "bullets" a squirt each loadding. I have not run 1,500 rounds out of mine yet, but I have a spare tower on hand JIC.

Epoxy was my thought as well. And if they do not send you a new tower stop doing business with them.

I wonder if the Korean-made clones have these problems.

On the other hand, I've heard that one thing C-Mag owners do is epoxy a thin strip of steel onto that area.

So this would be a common issue then?

That happens when you load the magazine. The part is replaceable.

I spoke with Cullen from the Betaco, and it appears that it is caused by loading.
He says all Beta mags do this, and the fix is to tilt the magazine back some when loading, allowing the rounds to be more aft wen loading.

I've sent it back, and they will take care of my magazine.

mine looks like that also, I bought two spare feed towers from betaco at $17.50 each
http://www.betaco.com/details.asp?rid=190&weapon=M16/M4

It is a wear item and I have a couple in the box if needed.

How hard are they to change out?

I have noticed some wear on mine as well. I think that if you use the loader that they supply, it causes the wear on the feed tower from the bullet rubbing.

If you load it by hand, one round at a time, the rubbing on the feed tower doesn't seem to happen as fast or at all.

Does anybody else have any experience with these?

I only have 1 Beta C mag but I am going to buy one of those new Surefire 100 round mags as soon as they come out.

Maybe Beta should make that part out of aluminum so it doesnt wear out.

I have a 9mm AR, an MP5 and an Uzi. Do I need a beta mag for each or can I just get three different towers?

Can anybody confirm my above observation?

Yes.

Beatco says the magazine should be tilted back so the rounds will not touch the front of the tower when loading.

Best to buy a mag for each. You can change the feed clips on any of them, but last time I spoke with them they were not selling Uzi feed clips by themselves, only with the entire beta-mag. It's a new product, I'm sure they have costs to recoup, so maybe wait awhile and you might be able to buy several feed clips and just switch them out. Too much of a pain for me, I like to own a couple beta-mags for each FA, but that's just me.....

And for the record, before someone says something about it, I'm not referring to magazines as clips; the "tower" is actually called a "feed clip" by betaco. Just thought I'd head that one off before it started.
I also just checked the website and the Uzi mag is still being sold as a complete package only, the feed clip is metal on this one though, as opposed to the plastic towers on the ones I own for other firearms

Anyone know if the Beta Mag or clones will work with a mag well grip or is there not enough space?

I doubt it. Mine is tight around the mag well.

I tried the mag well grip and it would not work. The drums were contacting the mag well grip. I tried putting a dremal to it but by the time that I was done there was not much left.
