The Gen III nomenclature, as some refer to it, denotes the use or refinement of cooling fixtures to maintain and verify the internal dimensions of the magazine to ensure proper movement of the follower. The design of the Gen III is identical to Gen II. Only some of the manufacturing methodologies changed between iterations.

As such, I think that the latest PMAGs should be refered to as Gen II mod 1, more appropriately.

Thanks for the reply, is there a way to tell the difference between the two?

Gen II mod 1 (Gen III) will be date-marked 07/07 or later. Look for a small marking below the mag catch relief that looks like a watch face, for lack of a better description. It will have 07 (the production year) in the middle with an arrow pointing to the number 7, or 8, or 9... as time passes (the production month).

The real question is:

Do the springs on the Gen3/Mod3 PMAGS with the WINDOW have the DAB of orange paint on them? The quote "Round Count Indicator"

GOOD

NFG

In the rush to get the MegLevel edition to market I think most (if not all) just had un-painted springs thrown in.

Yes all of the maglevel PMAG's should have the painted coil on the spring. Send eric@magpul.com an email and he'll get a painted spring in the mail to you.

My two, dated 08/07, have the spring painted in one spot. FWIW.

The windowed PMAG spring should have orange markings, one on each side for a total of two painted coils. Anything different let us know. Or if you like, nail polish (white/orange) works also.

Does someone have a picture of where the date code is located on the mag?

It is located directly under the magcatch on the left side of the mag. The arrow points to the month.

Hey Blacksnake, I tried to IM and E-Mail (both disabled) so I just wondered what dealer you went with? There are many, but I'm leaning towards NVBgear right now. :)

If I may offer my experience, I have been dealing with NVBgear and am very happy with each transaction.
