 XM193, staked in primers?

So I bought this Federal XM193. I noticed that the base near the primers is different within each box. Some (most) appear to have staking holding in the primers and others do not have the staking. Does anyone know why these appear to have staking AND why some appear to have no staking?

Thanks.

They changed their crimp not too long ago. The old crimp was even all the way around. The new crimp is more "staked" looking. It sounds like you have a mixture of the two.

ETA: Didn't see the pics in your post when I originally replied. Top row center and bottom row 2nd from left is the old crimp. The rest are the new crimp.

I just got a case of 500rds and there all staked. Is this crimp style better then the older style? Just wondering?

Thanks for posting this. I was just thinking today that I needed to take a photo and post the same question. I got a half a case with the same thing and had never seen it before. Somehow, the spent cases look even worse. I was wondering if they are still reloadable?

I see the "old crimp" now.

Does the "new crimp" also have a new method of sealing?

There have been many threads about these new crimp style. 99% sure its to deal with the higher pressures of M855A1

Staking is the new crimping. Those are all fine.

I just received 600 rounds of LC XM193F (Federal white box 20rd without the plastic separator in the box), and all of them have this new staking pattern. This is the stuff Brownells currently has in stock. I was about to ask about this as well.

EXACTLY! Just like many of the Radway Green imports we got about a decade and a half ago. You could see three distinct notches (or was it four) on the primer's pocket touching the primer!

If I saw that ammo on a range without seeing this thread first, I'd have though someone had reloaded the stuff and then tried to stake those primers and frigged up the job.

Those are the worst looking staking marks I've ever seen on any ammo to date. They may work fine, they just look like hell compared to the circular or tabbed type in other ammo.

reaming those looks like it would be a pain

Santa Barbra SS109 was the First REAL Staked primmer Ive seen. I still have a small stash! Some of the best SS109 Ive shot.

YeS one could see brass driven between the primmer and the pocket ! Like a wedge. for lack of a better term.

The above is not what I think of when I here about Staked 5.56mm ammo.

But the above is staked. like one would do with a key or castle nut

Maybe the primers won't pop out now. I had a problem with multiple lots of XM193. http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_16/568432_What_do_I_do_with_bad_ammo_.html. Federal sent me 120 rounds through the mail (despite the fact I bought 1200 rounds of the shit), after I sent to them 5 round samples from each lot I had. Of course, they claimed nothing was wrong with the ammo, and it must be my gun, despite the fact my M4 clone has zero issues with IMI M855 and WinUSA Q3131A.

Let us know how they run, and if you experience any popped primers. I'm tagging this topic.

Thanks

Edited to add the link to my topic. I wound up just shooting the bad lots off; still have some stuff left. I tend to get jams every 30 rounds or so due to popped primers. Just shot 150 rounds tonight and had 4 jams due to popped primers. Again, I don't have any issues with any other ammo types. I even shot 40 rounds of 77 grain SSA through the same gun without an issue, since their primers don't pop out.
