Just wondering if anybody has found any good deals on this ammo? My gun seems to like this way better than the Federal GMM and I want to stock up on it. The cheapest I've found is $23.00 at Wideners, but they don't have any in stock and haven't for several months. Any help is greatly appreciated!

I found this at SGA ammo... http://www.sgammo.com/product/hornady/200rds-rds-308-hornady-tap-amax-168-gr-precision-308

Wondering if it's the same as what I've been shooting. I ordered this from wideners last time... http://wideners.com/itemdetail.cfm?item_id=8394&dir=18|830|848

Also found this. Is it the same? It has one pic with the silver case and polymer tip like I expected but another with the brass case that looks like the Federal GMM. It also states that it is Hornady TAP ammo, but says JHP. I didn't know the TAP ammo came in JHP... http://www.venturamunitions.com/308-winchester-168-gr-jhp-bt-le-tap-fpd-hornady-20-rounds/

There is a version of the 168 grain TAP that is a BTHP. To call it a JHP is like calling the 68/69 and 77 grain OTM .223 rounds JHP. The bullet used in the 168 grain hollow point TAP ammo is an open tipped match style bullet and isn't designed to expand. One of the best groups my Savage 12FLV ever shot was with some of the 168 grain BTHP TAP ammo. It also does really well with their 155 grain A-Max ammo, though I've yet to find a handload that shoots those bullets as well.

Look for Hornadys brown box loaded with the 168gr amax it is the exact same load as the TAP for 5-8$ cheaper a box (in my area). It tracks the same out of my 26'' bull barrel out to 1000yd. I get 2808 fps out of my rifle at 60 deegres F 1720 ft above sea level.

+1

The old "Match" stuff shoots the same out of my AR10 as the red boxed TAP and black box TAP. Both the match and red box are cheaper but then again they are not for "PERSONAL DEFENSE"...

Just checked TJ Conevera. I see that the bullets are listed, but can't see any prices. It say for "Law Enforcement" agencies to call them for pricing. Do you have to be LE to order from him??

Just called. Apparently you do have to be LE. I don't understand why, because I ordered the same bullets from another website. After I told him I wasn't LE, he pretty much cut me off and acted like I was a fool for even trying. He wouldn't even tell me what the price would be if I got a LE buddy to order it for me. Claimed that those bullets "were for LE use only." Excuse me for trying to give them some business. Needless to say, I'll avoid them from now on.

My experience with Hornday and "LE only" has been more tax related than some kind of special ammo. I was told that the LE stuff was purchased tax free and thus could not be sold to non-LE...could be a load of BS as well.
